Let me help you enjoy that Snickers......

I went to the volleyball tournament last night. It was pretty good. We won 2 and lost 2. Jess played well. She can really spike the ball down when she gets a good set. I think she is the most consistent spiker on the team. The coach is kind of a stupid ass. She is inconsistent in her standards and will pull one kid out for making one mistake while another can make 10 in a row and not a word is said. This is kind of the world of HS sports.

I thought little league was bad with parents coaching but when you get to HS is isn't a whole lot different. People who are cerified to teach but not necessarily sane enough to coach.

The weather is still awesome here. It is nice and dry and cool. I am going to cut the grass tonight.

There is a home football game. The kids are going to go. I am going over to Nancy's, sit on the deck, listen to the game on the radion and drink.

I am hoping to be able to get away from work today to go and get a haircut. We have been working very hard and it would be nice to get away for a little bit, even if it is just lunch and a haircut. Little things in life, remember?

I should be seeing everyone in a couple of days. The kids are really excited and it looks like the weather is going to be good. A deserved break awaits.

See you all soon!

Wonderful Weather

The weather this morning is perfect! It reminds me of football weather. It is slightly cool, in the mid 50's, dry and sunny. I love it!

We lost at golf last night. (Big shock) I am still playing like crap. I did ok for most of the round but had a couple of holes from hell and that was that. We lost by 4 strokes and our season ends, thank God.

I do have one more golf outing. I am playing in a tournament on the 23rd that usually find to be a fun time. I have played in it almost every year so I am playing in it again. As the weather cools down I may take Drew or Jess out with me and just play some rounds for fun. I think that is what I need to help my game is just relaxing golf where I am not worried about every dang swing or looking stupid. A few rounds to get my confidence back.

I got my beef yesterday. Dave went and picked it up and Nancy put it in my freezer. Talk about curb side service. That was very nice of them. I was golfing and the kids were at practice and they hooked us up. It is nice to have a freezer full of food again. I had just used my last pound of hamburger on Monday so it came just in time.

Jess has a game tonight. I think I will go. It is in Adel and they play four matches. I will miss the first one but will see the last three.

The kids are looking forward to going to Nebraska. They haven't been to Exeter in quite awhile and they are really excited. I am going to have Jess drive most of the way, she doesn't really want to, she needs the experience. She gets her license in Feb.

Work was a big piece of crap yesterday. Many, many problems and they were the bigger kind so only me or Nancy could work on them. We have four in the department but two of them really are just front line techs without much real knowledge. When the big stuff is hitting the fan, it is Nancy and me in the middle of it. Yesterday happened to be one of those days that mostly big stuff was happening.

The office is a mess. We have computers and boxes everywhere. I need to spend some time this morning getting things organized and re-prioritizing my list. I think I may have the other two come to the office to get some computers out.

Life is just humming along. I know time is going fast it just seems that I get so focused on the minute by minute issues that the hours and days seem to slip away.

Tomorrow is Friday and I am really looking forward to it.

Golf Playoffs

So did I mention that I made it into the golf league playoffs? We were in last place going into the last three weeks of league. The the team we played a few weeks ago couldn't make it so they forfeited. Two weeks ago the team we played couldn't make it so THEY forfeited. Last week another forfeit. Three weeks of forfeits gave us 12 points which put is in second place and qualified us for the damn playoffs.

It should be short lived because we stink this season. The playoff match is tonight. I will let you know how it turns out tomorrow. I think this is God's way of sticking it to me. I have been playing the worst golf I have played in years and yet, somehow, through fate, here I am playing a bit longer.

Ok, I forgot to say how I would spend $1,000. Here it is:

* Get some new clothes for work
* Get three pair of new shoes. Running, and a black and brown pair for work
* Buy two hose houses for the yard. Those are the things you put your water hose in and it rolls up.
* Buy a wheel barrow (sp)
* Buy a new hat
* Get the window in my car fixed
* Save what was left for a rainy day

Simple needs for a simple person. :)

Jess played in a volleyball tournament last night. They won the first game and lost the other two. She played pretty well but the back row players aren't very good so the passes to the setter were poor which made the sets poor which didn't give the hitters a good ball to hit.

Work still stinks.

What's a mid-life crisis like?

It seems that I have gone from going 100 MPH to leveling off and I seem to be missing the adrenaline rush of the last 4 weeks. I really hated the overwhelming feeling that I was getting when we had so much to do and very little time to get it done. They weeks of not having a day off really weighed on me and it was getting pretty tough but now it seems like I am at a plateau and it feels kind of hollow. I feel like I just got over the top of a big hill and instead of coasting downhill, it just flattened out.

Don't get me wrong we still have a lot of work to get done but it is not like it was before. The adrenaline is not pumping and there is not so much of a sense of urgency. It kind of reminds me of going to a college football game. You get up in the morning, usually early, all excited and ready to go. You get your tailgating stuff together, go to the tailgate party, live it up. Go to the game and cheer your heart out. At the end of the day, your drive home seems like a drag. Another example is the day after Christmas that you have to go to work. Kind of a let down.

On other notes: Drew is really enjoying football. He seems to thrive in the misery of the heat and pads and dirt. I hope he does well becuase he really enjoys the game. The Jr. High team doesn't have a game for another week.

Jess has a volleyball match tonight. They are in their first mini tournament of the HS season. She is having an up and down start to the year. Girl dramas! I wish girls were better to eachother. Guys don't have to go through the kind of crap girls do. Another reason I am glad to be a male!

Here is a little tid bit of knowledge for ya.
- It you ever want to see the worst in people. Work tech support. You see it all. Stupidity, Anger, Frustration, Anguish, Envy. People swear, are antagonistic, demeaning and condesending. I find it hard because we support 300 staff members and over 1800 students and eventually everyone treats you poorly. If you were to work with a group of people of that size you would normally just know who most of the were and only have daily close interaction with just a few. We get the mother load and in most cases under unpleasant circumstances. We have a excellent success rate of helping people but it is hard to like someone when they walk in or call and treat you poorly. Over the course of time, the people you actually like and respect dwindle to just a few.

I want to like people and want people to like me but as time goes on we eventually see everyone at their worst. I think tech people tend to stick together for that reason.

More tomorrow!

Is the bottle half empty or half full?

I spend the weekend catching up on my yard work. It was a beautiful day to be outside so I took advantage of the weather and got a bunch of stuff done. I cut and trimmed the lawn, I trimmed some bushes and cut down a few bushes and a tree. I halled it all away and got it cleaned up.

Drew mowed a couple of lawns this weekend so he has a bit of spending money again. He is not a real big spender so he is getting a pretty big nest egg.

Jess cleaned the house and helped me outside. She had a bunch of homework and I would guess she spent about 6 hours working on it. I don't think I spent 6 hours on homework my whole high school career.

We, Jess and I, also went to the store and got groceries. We were in desperate need. We also stopped at Pamida and bought a palm tree. I put it in the front yard but I don't think it will make the winter. I will try to cover it and hopefully it can make it. It was only $12 so I am not out much if it doesn't make it.

I made Manacotti for dinner last night. It turned out pretty good. I don't make it the traditional way. My recipe is onions, ground beef spaghetti sauce and velveeta cheese for the meat mixture. I stuff the manacotti with the meat mixture, put it in a baking dish, cover with sause and mozerella cheese and bake. I also broiled some bread and butter and we had peas. It was a pretty good meal. I am taking the left overs to work today. I like it better the second day.

Next weekend football starts and I couldn't be more happy about it. There is something about watching college football on Saturdays that makes me happy. Once the season starts it gives me something to look forward to on the weekend. I think we need things in our life to look forward to. It is the little things that makes life more interesting.

Jess has her first volleyball game of the season on Tuesday. I am supposed to go to the golf league, end of the season steak dinner. I am think I will go to the volleyball match. She also plays on Thursday and Friday so I have plenty of opportunity to watch her play. Our football team has its first game on Friday night, here in Perry. I hope they win. We have a new coach and I really like the guy. I hope he does well.

Question of the day: If you had $1,000 just to spend (I know $1,000 isn't a lot anymore) what would you spend it on. I find $1,000 to be interesting becuase it isn't enough for a really big thing but it really could take care of a bunch of small stuff.

I will post my answer tomorrow.

Phylis Diller Rocks!

We ended up playing golf last night. Not sure if it was a good thing or a bad thing. It seems that everyone in our league is forfeiting their matches so we have not had an opponent for three weeks. We get all the point when this happens so we received 12 points in the last three weeks. That gives us a total of 16.5 points for the year. (We were in last place.) The ridiculous thing is with the forfeits we have a shot at the playoffs.

I played like crap last night, which is becoming the standard for my game. I am not sure what the hell happened but I just can't seem to hit it clean anymore. Oh well.

The rain continues around here. My pump is pumping water out all the time so it is good that it is working or else I would probably have water in my basement.

Drew must have had a rough practice yesterday because when I got home from golf he was sleeping. Jess had a scrimmage last night. They apparently did pretty well.

So the food at Casey's is pretty good. I get food from there more than anywhere else in town. Here is the rub; it is a freakshow anytime you go into a place like that. It doesn't matter where you turn, there is a weirdo, a freak, a nut job or some other type of person in there. Barnum would have to look far to restock the freak show at the circus. (Side note: As I type this I realize that I shop there so I must therefore include myself as part of the circus)

Anyway, I like to get my lunch there. They have good pizza sandwiches, etc. I am always amazed at the quality of employee they seem to attract at these type of stores. I have seen a range of crack heads(Seriously), metally challenged, angry, crazy and just plain lazy. The one employee that I can think of that seemed to be nice and helpful with at least a sense of intellengence had a odd physical trait. She always wore white shirts and her nipples would always stick WAY out. But that's not all folks, the nipples always pointed different directions. One almost straight up in the air and the other either down and to the left.

Now I try to maintain a bit of decorum when out in public so if such an occurance were to happen in a normal environment I would try to keep my eyes away from the entire chest area; however, this was such an oddity and so extremely visible and attention drawing it was really hard to not notice.

I guess the point of my story is that if you really feel bad about yourself. Maybe you have gotten a little heavy, as in my case, or maybe you are just having a bad day. Stop by your local convienence store and take a gander. Life could be much, much worse.

Have a good weekend!

Whoever is doing the raindance-----can you give it a break already?

Another rainy day here in central Iowa. Here in Perry we aren't in too bad of shape it is just wet and the grass is long because we don't get a chance to cut it. To the north is where the flooding is the worst.

The first day of school went as well as it could have. All of the new system we put in place over ths summer seem to be working well. There were a few minor issues but nothing that we couldn't take care of in a few minutes and it was mostly just little configuration adjustments. When you put in as many new systems as we did this summer, the first time they are used could be a bad thing but it appears we did a good job of getting things ready to go so, yeah us!

The kids had a good first day. Drew is glad to get back into the routine. I think he missed seeing all his friends all the time so he is happy. Jess has some real witches in her class that she got to spend some time with yesterday so it was up and down for her. Girls can be the biggest snot bags.

It is the last day of golf league. I think it may get rained out and that is ok. I really could care less one way or another. I will be fine with playing if the weather is good and just as fine not going and calling it a season if the weather is bad.

I actually feel so much better now that school has started. The week before, the teachers have nothing to do but bother the tech department for stupid little things. ("I want access to MySpace because I keep in touch with college classmates through it and I don't have the Internet at home.") ("I want to get to Ebay so I can "buy stuff for my classroom" )(whatever!)"

Most of the requests are ridiculous and they get upset when I say NO! Once the kids are back they are too busy to bother me with the little stuff. Well, at least the requests are not as frequent.

By the way, the stupidity of people is no longer a suprise to me. I honestly wonder how some people find their way home at night. I should make a list of all the stupid things people do and post it here sometime. I honestly think my IQ drops just by spending time with some of them.
