Oreo Cookies, Running Water, Indoor Plumbing, Excedrine Migraine and the kids

I finally made it to Friday. Everything so far this week at work has pretty much sucked so I am really glad it is almost the weekend.

Registration is Monday so that will be a bit of a zoo. I think it should be ok, but we (me and Nancy) have a lot of work to do to get everything ready to go for the big event. For the moment, I have been ignoring the monster stacks of computers stored in our server room. Those items can wait until the weekend.

Not much going on in life right now. I am working a bunch, my golf game still stinks and I feel tired all the time. All in all, things could be better.

I decided to look on the bright side of things and put a list of some of the things I am thankful for as the title of todays blog. Not much but sometimes it is the little things in life that get you through. As with all things, this stress will pass and things will be back to normal in no time. Like the saying goes, "This too shall pass.".

The kids will be back on Saturday. It has been nice to have the house to myself for a week or so but the cat and dog miss the kids like crazy. I will be glad to have them back as well.

I have been craving pizza lately so maybe tonight I will have a pizza for dinner. It will all depend on when I get home tonight.

Have a great weekend.

Have ya ever had 300 people pissed at ya?

Well, the whole mail server thing did not go well. We ended up having to rebuild it from scratch on a new server. We lost all mail, contacts, and calendar events. We have the ability to get some of it back for some of our users depending on the version of Outlook they were using but in technology terms this was a sunomi.

Here is the issue. When we put the system in we had a meeting with all the administration team to discuss if we wanted to back this server up or not. The reason we were hesitant to back it up is that schools are a public entity and as a public entity our records can be made public by the court at the request of a citizen. Most of our administration and our Superintedend did not want historical record to come and bite them down the road. The concer was that some things could be taken out of context and make the district look bad, not to mention some of the stuff the staff my send or recieve in email could really make us look bad.

The decision was made, by majority, to not back up this server. All other servers in the district are backed up regularly.

I have told people for years not to save important stuff to that server becuase we don't back it up. As a matter of fact, on Monday our tranportation director wanted to have his mailbox size increased. I told him No and he needed to get important stuff out of the mail system because we don't back it up and one day, the system would crash and he would be in my office crying like a baby.

The next day the damn sever crashed.

We have registration on Monday. I am kind of looking forward to it. I think more of just to get it done.

I swear I have two months worth of work to do and about two weeks to get it done. My office is a mess, more like a disaster and I will spend most of today helping people get their email software up and running again. It really should be awesome having to talk to each one of them face to face, listening to them complain while I am getting them up and running.

Tomorrow we will be setting up for registration and I have some software work to get finished before Monday.

I golf tonight. I am sure it will be ugly because my mind is elsewhere. I would get drunk but I have too much to do this week.

Kids called me last night. They are having a great time and loved the Falls. Today they are going to some amusement park in Pensylvania. Hell I am not even sure how to spell Pensylvania. The should be back Saturday sometime.

Have you ever screamed inside your head? It kind of hurts!

More Rich saga tomorrow.

In some states, we would be legally married!

Well it is Wednesday but it seems like I have been through a weeks worth of events.

Work has been crazy. People calling and needing stuff, imagine that, and there is so much to do before school starts.

We have the new staff orientation today so I will have the new teachers for a little over two hours today. I needed to get stuff together for that - make copies, setup phone accounts, go over presentation, print handouts, etc. At the same time, the phone is rining off the hook, the buildings are calling with "needs" and just when I thought I was at the end of my rope-------------------The FREAKING EMAIL SERVER CRAPS ITSELF!!!!! There is a hardware failure and the whole system is down.

Ok, I took a breath---in most cases I would have to replace the server but in this instance the entire backup file is on one of the drives of that server so I need it to be able to recover the system. Fortunately I had our server vendor scheduled to come in today for a wireless project. The focus will now shift to getting that server up. That will be going on while I am training the new staff---I had to scratch the email portion of the training.

Golf last night, like I had time to go and do that, went ok. I didn't golf very well but neither did my partner and we laughed and had a good time. It was probably a good thing for me to do after the day I had. Have a few beers, laugh a bit and get the hell out of the office for awhile. Anyway, it was a good time.

I am sure you are curious about the title of my post..........

Last night I had a dream that I was flying in a plane and there was a bunch of turbulence. Now the dream itself is a bit fuzzy but I do remember this part. I am talking to a group of people after we land, apparently they are friends of mine in the dream but I really can't recall who it was. Anyway, they are talking about the turbulence and how bad it was. So I pull out this broken light bulb, that I had apparently sat on during the turbulance, and as I held it up, I said, "In some states, we would be legally married!" and I laughed and laughed and laughed. As a matter of fact I woke up laughing.

It really isn't that funny, I know, but it sure was a hoot in my dream last night.

More of the saga of Rich tomorrow.

Golf! On a Tuesday?

Ok, I have been really stinking up the golf course lately but agreed to sub in Tuesday night golf league for our middle school principal. I guess I am a glutten for punishment.

I am looking on the bright side though. If I suck tonight, it doesn't hurt my team and it is a good practice round for Thursday night.

So the infinite wisdom of our local government officials has deemed it necessary to put a warning siren - the type of siren they use for the noon whistle and tornado warning - right outside my back yard. The damn thing is on a 50 foot pole and the siren itself is about 3 feet tall. They don't have it hooked up to power so I haven't lost my hearing yet. There are signs all over the pole that you must have hearing protection or risk hearing loss. It is literally about 50 feet from my back yard! Bastards! I can think of about 20 spots close to here that would have been just as good and not so intrusive to any neighborhood.

The kids are having a good time on vacation. The were up at the Great Lakes the last time they called me. They went to Lake Heron and to Macanow(sp) Island. The next stop was going to be Niagara falls. I get a call about every other day. It is a great time for them.

It has been a nice quiet time for me here. The house is clean and stays clean. The evenings are quiet and I get to watch my shows in peace. I don't have to cook dinner unless I want to. It has been a vacation of sorts for me as well. Molly keeps me busy. She is a little rascal.

My neighbors are an elderly couple and they know I am here alone this week. Yesterday, the wife, Shirley stopped by and gave me a bag of food. She said they were going to be gone for 4 or 5 day so they thought I would like the food. I am not really sure how to take it. Either they were just being nice and didn't think I could fend for myself so they gave me some food or they were just cleaning out their fridge and giving me their stuff that would spoil. I didn't really want to take it but I did and thanked her.

More tomorrow.
