One day closer to Summer and Friday

The weather has been unpleasant so far this Spring and it looks like the long weekend is going to be wet. Today is supposed to be nice but rain is in the forecast for the rest of the weekend.

I was hoping to get some yard work done but I guess I will have to wait and see how the weather holds up. If the accuracy of the weather people is as usual, it may be sunny and nice all weekend. Your guess is as good as theirs most times.

There are no games scheduled for this weekend so it should be relatively uneventful. Drew is going to a birthday party on Saturday but other than that, we have no plans.

I picked up Shelby's ashes yesterday. It was sad but they put her in a nice wooden box that had a ceramic heart on top with Shelby written in script. There were also a couple of little paw prints in the ceramic top. It is nice. I am not sure when we will bury her but we have the spot picked out and have to have a time when we can all get together and the weather is nice.

I will try to get some pictures up on the site this weekend. I am not as good at that as I should be.

I think I may drink a little beer this weekend.

What to Say

It has been a week since my last posting and much has happend. I am kind of at a loss for words and it has been hard to start blogging again. The last week has brought deep sadness, joy, a time for reflection and a time to begin to heal.

One week ago today, our dog Shelby passed away. She was only seven and I took her in to get spade. It was routine surgery and we had no concerns what-so-ever. I recieved a call at 9:00 am that morning that her heart had stopped during surgery and she died. The sadness that washed over me at that moment was overwhelming. I did not know what to do or what to say. Shelby was not just a pet but a family member and I will miss her greatly.

Jesssica ran in the state track meet the following day. Thursday. I did not tell the kids about Shelby because I knew she would have a hard time running witht that in her head. She did well and got 9th in the state.

I told the kids Thurdsay night about Shelby and it was a very sad night and next day. Drew stayed home from school in the morning but went in the afternoon. He had a game that night and did well. The team lost 14-11 but he had two doubles.

Saturday of last week, Jess ran in the state track meet in the Sprint medley relay. The got 7th and she ran a 57.4 split for her 400 leg. The top three places broke the state record so 7th was very good.

There seems to have been so much that has occurred in the last week that it is really hard to put into text. It was awesome to see Jess run at state and do well. It was great to see Drew do so well in his games but we enjoyed all of these accomplishments with a heavy heart.

The coming weeks will be much better and I look forward to our summer events. The last day of school is June 6.
