I am not sure what I would do if my house was flooded to the roof

So the rain came down again yesterday morning and I have bit of water in my basement. It isn't too bad. It is in Jess' room right under and in front of the window well. I used the carpet cleaner to pull up the water (Thanks for the tip Nancy). It seemed to work well. Last night it was still wet but drying.

I left work a little early yesterday to clean the gutters on my house. They were bad and I am sure that didn't help get the water away from the house. Anyway, it is good to have done and I am hoping we don't have anymore water issues inside the house.

The city had to sandbag our power plant yesterday. The water from the river is rising and may hit the plant today. It is scheduled to crest this afternoon so we will see if we lose power today. That would royally suck! I have a sump that is going on and off all day and without power, I am doing it manually.

Jess had a softball game last night in Saydel. They lost 7-1 but it was pretty close most of the the game. They gave up 5 runs late but the game was closer than the score indicates. She played well but didn't have much luck batting. She hit the ball everytime but popped two up for outs and then grounded to the pitcher and they threw her out at first. At least she didn't stike out.

She has a tournament today and tomorrow in Ft. Dodge. They play both games this morning so it is a pretty short day for them.

Drew has a tournament of champions game tonight in Urbandale. I think he needs to be there by 5:15. I would imagine they will get beat tonight but you never know. He has had about 6 games rained out this year. I am not sure if they will make them up.

I don't have any meetings today, which is awesome.

I didn't get to bed until almost 11 last night so I am very tired this morning. Jess needs to get up at 6 so I am sure she will be a little bundle of joy this morning.

The sun is shining and it is supposed to be dry today. There are so many roads closed around here it is ridiculous. I think they even plan on closing I-80 sometime either today or this weekend. Click this link to see pictures of the flooding here in Iowa: http://iowaflood.com/

We also had a tornado hit a boy scout camp. For of the boys died.

I hope we have a dry weekend.

Let's start a pool---How much will a gallon of gas cost on Labor day?

It looks like there is more rain on the way today. The west side of Iowa is getting a storm that is moving northeast and should be here in central Iowa by mid-morning. Jess is supposed to have a game here in Perry tonight. I guess it will depend on how much rain we get.

I did get the lawn mowed last night. It was pretty nice out but I wasn't much in the mood to enjoy it. Work was rather sucky yesterday and I predict a 50-50 chance of it sucking today as well. While I was mowing, the wheel of my mower FELL OFF! The damn thing broke and completely fell off the mower. I turned it around and got it to work for the rest of the job but it is wobbling and night right at all. I have no idea if I can find a wheel for the damn thing. I really don't want to buy another mower.

Not sure what the hell is going on. The dryer craps out, the fridge breaks down and now my mower has big issues. My golf cart is in terrible shape and barely drivable. My gas grill doesn work. I am jinxed! Everything is breaking down.

Here is the other part of that. Let just say I replace the grill and the mower. What am I supposed to do with the broken ones. I hate to have my place look like the home of a redneck but I can see why people have mowers, grills, ect in their yards. Not the easies of things to despose of. Whatever!

On the bright side of things. Nancy brought in a pan of brownies yesterday. No matter how crappy things get, a nice brownie can get me through it.

The mosquito population is exploding. They are everywhere with all of this water standing. I am sure it is going to be a very humid, buggy summer. I am going to put something in the yard to help with the mosquitos but we also have those little black bugs. The biting bastards maybe as bad as the damn mosquitos.

Jess and Drew went to the country club pool yesterday afternoon. It was a nice break for them to get out and do something other than practices or just hanging out at home. I think they were there for a couple hours. That is the one nice thing about Jess being able to drive. She can do things like that without me having to haul them around.

Off to see where today takes me.

39 counties declared disaster areas in Iowa

We ended up getting more rain last night. We are over 7 inches above average for rain right now and there is water everywhere. The baseball field downtown is flooded, highway 30 to Boone is flooded and closed and there are water levels rising. Sandbagging is becoming part time jobs for the people of Iowa.

Fotunately, we have no problems here at the house. The sump is going like crazy but it isn't overloaded. As long as we have power we should be fine. (I am knocking on wood).

Jess had a game at DCG last night. They lost 11-0. They stop games if someone is ahead by 10 runs after 5 innings. Guess what..we were.

Jess had the only hit of the game. We only had two players on base all night. Jess hit a single to left field and another girl got walked. Other than that it was slim pickins. We had quite a few bats on balls but just couldn't hit the gaps.

They are supposed to play Wednesday but it is supposed to rain so that one will be up in the air.

Dawn's dad is retiring at the end of the month. He sold his dental practice and will see his last patience June 30th.

Work is going to pickup here in the next few days. I have a lot of things to get done before I leave for California. The last thing I want to be doing is trying to take care of work issues while I could be on the beach. I need to get everything taken care of before we go.

Today is going to be dry and I need to mow my yard tonight. Jess is having a friend come over and hang out so she is looking forward to that.

She has weight lifting at 6:30 and then softball practice at 10. She is supposed to have volleyball practice at 11 but the softball coach isn't letting any of the softball players go. She said she is going to talk to the volleyball coach today and tell her the softball players can't come to her practice. I am sure that is going to go over well.

Off to start the day.

You know what? I am pretty glad its Monday!

It looks like it is going to be dry for the next few days. It is a welcome forcast because there are floods everywhere. The rivers are way over their banks and the resevoirs are full. There are streets all over Des Moines that are closed due to the rain. They even closed University avenue for awhile yesterday. What a mess.

The weekend was ok. Jess played in a softball tournament Friday and Saturday. They lost all four games but there were close and had a chance in all of the games. Jess played well.

Saturday, I sat out in the sun all day watching the games. They played at 8:30 and then not again until 3:15 so it was a long day at the park. Drew and I got our hair cut and then I got the oil changed in my car. I got pretty sun burned on my face but it is fine today. I tend to burn but it turns to tan in a couple days.

Drew went to a dance Friday night and then stayed overnight at a friends house on Saturday night.

Jess also had a volleyball tournemant yesterday and a prom meeting. She is the class treasurer and the class officers had a meeting and got some fund raiser ideas together.

Today Drew has weight lifing at 9:30 and then Jess has a game in DCG tonight. Tomorrow appears to be open.

I will have to deal with my tenants this week and pay a visit. It isn't something I really want to do but there seems to be no option.

Just a couple more weeks and I will be headed to sunny California. Whoo-hooo!!!

Off to start my week.
