The meet records continue to fall

Weather is going to be good again today.

The track meet last night was good. The girl from North Polk that was a good runner, was on a senior trip and didn't come to the meet. Jess won 4 golds but it was a difficult meet anyway.

There were only 5 teams and not a lot of entries so the meet flew by. It was over by 7:00 so the events were really close together. Jess ran the 400 in a meet record of 58.11 which is the fastest time of the year for her (that time put her 2nd in the state all classes). About 15 minutes later she ran the 800 in a time of 2:31 which was slow for her but with little recovery time from the 800 it was ok.

About 15 minutes after that she ran the sprint med. They won and her 400 split was 60 seconds. She said the meet felt like a sucky practice. She also won the long jump but didn't have that great of a jump. The competition wasn't that good.

It is going to be a busy weekend for her. She leaves today to go to Minneapolis to play volleyball this afternoon. After the tournament, they are driving back to run in a track meet tomorrow. After the track meet, it is back to Minneapolis for volleyball Sunday morning. Then back for a track meet and school on Monday.

Drew has a track meet in Nevada today and a baseball game Monday here in Perry. He worked the track meet last night, moving hurdles and helping with the shot put.

The girls track sprint medley team qualified for the Drake relays so that is coming up next week. You have to be in the top 24 teams in the state regardless of class. I think the came in at 22. They don't have a 400 at the Drake relays so Jess couldn't individually qualify but she is on the sprint med so that will be fun for her.

Lots of stuff happening and it is good to get to the weekend.

ps: to check Jess stats and state rank go to this link: http://www.quikstatsiowa.com/girls_track/2008-09/access_stats.html

Click on the 400 and see her rank. The first screen shows all classes, you can select 3A to see where she is in our class. You can click on her name and it will show all her times and the meets.

Off to start.

Sunshine and headache free....at least so far

It is another nice day. Three in a row. whoo-hoo!

Class went well last night but I had a terrible headache. I am not sure what the deal was but I struggled with the headache all day and then last night while I was teaching it started killing me again.

Teaching is a real drag when your head has a butcher knife in it.

Trash day today so the ladies get good weather to prance around in their Sunday dresses.

Jess has a track meet today. It is here in Perry and she is running against a very good runner from North Polk. The girl does the same events as Jess and has a little bit better times. Currently, in the state of Iowa, all classes, the girl from North Polk is ranked #2 and Jess is ranked #4 in the 400. Jess' best time is 58.5, North Polk girl's best time 58.3. It should be a good race.

The also both do long jump. The North Polk girl should win that one. They both run the 800 and once again the North Polk girl should win. They also both run the Sprint Med relay, we should win that one. I am hoping for a split. We win the 400 and the Sprint med. She wins the long jump and 800. I think Jess can beat her in the 800 but she will have to be mentally strong.

I guess we will see.

No meetings planned for the day and nothing for the rest of the week.

Off to start.

Literally a deer in the headlights

Weather is going to be good today. I think the drive to class will be a good one.

The track meet went well. The weather was good and Jess ran really well.
* She won the long jump
* Set a meet record in the 400 with a time of 58.7 seconds
* She won the 800 with a personal best time of 2:24
* Got first in the sprint med with a meet record time of 1:54

We have a meet here in Perry Thursday.

So I was driving home last night and hit a deer!! I was driving along the road and saw a deer on the shoulder, I moved to the other lane and the damn thing walked right out into my car. I didn't hit is square, I think I moved over just enough so the right side of my car hit the deer's head and maybe the front of it. I don't think I have damage to the car but I couldn't tell last night. I will take a look this morning.

It was a dang good thing another car wasn't coming from the other direction or I would have hit it square in the center of my car. That would have been bad.

We had a guy in Perry lock his wife in the house with him at gun point. He threatened to kill her and himself but ended up letting her go. He was in the house with the lights off and a shotgun in a standoff with police. After about 5 hours, they went in with a concussion grenade. He was removed in handcuffs and is in custody this morning.

He apparently lost his job at Tyson foods, the meat packing plant in town, and just lost it.

It should be a good night to teach class. The students do presentations and we start databases. Only three more classes left.

Ok, off to start

My baldness WAS in remission

The weather is getting better. I think 60 today.

The track meet yesterday was postponed until today. The weather was cold and rainy so it was good they moved it.

Work was busy yesterday. It was one of those days that just sprung up on us. I am hoping today and the rest of the week are a bit slower.

Drew went home sick yesterday from school. He came to my office around 11 and said his stomach was upset and he felt like he was going to throw up. He went home and slept and stayed in bed most of the night. Before I went to bed, he seemed to be feeling better.

Central college called Jess last night. The track coach talked to her for about 20 minutes.

Not much else. Off to start.

The weather isn't done sticking it too us

Weather sucks today. Cold and rainy.

Jess has a track meet and I kind of hope it gets cancelled. The cold weather is going to make it miserable. High of 44 so it will be cold from the get go.

It was a busy weekend. Saturday, the weather was great so I took advantage of it and did a bunch of yard work. I burned leaves and sticks and brush that had been collecting over the winter. It was good to get done.

Nancy gave us a bed and a dresser so we moved things around for the kids to get that stuff in here. The dresser is beautiful with a nice mirror. Jess loves it. We also got a queen size bed so Drew is in heaven over that deal.

I have an early meeting this morning and another one at 11 but the rest of the day is open.

There really isn't much going on right now. The kids have practices but the weekends have been pretty slow.

This weekend, Jess will be busy. She has a volleyaball tournament in Minneapolis and track meets, Thursday, Saturday and Monday. She will be going up to Minneapolis between track meets.

Ok, off to start
