Fun Filled Friday

We made it to the weekend. The weather is still good here. Highs are to be in the 70's. My staff is celebrating Nancy's birthday today. Her birthday was sometime ago but we have not had an opportunity to get together and have a little party so today is the day. There seems to be so much to do today and Monday before we leave for our Microsoft trip.

Jessica had a track meet last night. She got 3rd in the long jump, 1st in the 400 and 1st in the sprint medley relay. The sprint medley relay team broke the track record last night so they were very excited. That event consists of 100,100,200,400. Jessica runs the 400 so if they can get her even or in the lead when she gets the baton, they will win. The coach thinks that relay team has a shot at state. She ran 61.10 seconds in the 400, which is pretty good because there was a very strong wind at the meet so she was very happy with the time.

Drew had a good practice last night and then he and I had Chinese food. It was good, he likes eating with chop stick so it is good and kind of fun.

I am working at the middle school track meet tonight as a timer. It is easy money and I enjoy watching track so it is a win-win for me....:)

There are no events planned for this weekend so it is going to be a chance for us all to catch our breath.

Sunny Disposition

It is another nice day today in a string of good weather. Mother nature seemed to do us wrong earlier in the month but she is making up for it now. It is so nice to see the sun everyday and for the kids to be able to be outside.

Jessica has a track meet tonight. She is only doing three events and that is a relief to her. She is in the long jump, the open 400 and the sprint medley (she is running the 400, anchor leg of that event). The coach is trying to put together a sprint medley team that can make it to state. I think they are close. I guess we will see what happens tonight.

Unfortunately I am not going to the meet tonight. Drew has baseball practice and the track meet is a little over an hour away. He could get a ride to and from practice but I don't want him to be home alone until ten at night. I think I will take him out to dinner after practice. A little father/son time tonight.

The countdown to Microsoft continues. I leave on Tuesday. Nancy and I had a conference call with Microsoft yesterday. They are doing a case study with us for our participation in the Vista beta project. When it is done, there will be a write-up on the Microsoft site about us and our school. It should be pretty cool. I will send you the link when it is available. I was told it would take about 5 weeks. They have to write it, editors check, Microsoft check, we check it, then back to the editors, then they publish.

Have a great day today!

HUMP DAY!

This week is really moving along. It is already Wednesday. Update on the track meet and Drew's baseball scrimmage

Jessica got 1st in the long jump, 1st in the 400 (her time was 1:00:97), 2nd in the sprint medley relay and 4th in the 4x400 relay. I am not sure what the heck it up with the long jump. She has only practiced it twice in practice and this is only the second meet that she attempted it. We were hoping a field event would just help her fill out her day. I really didn't think she would do as well as she did.

I arrived to the track meet a bit late so I missed the long jump. I was listening to the results and hoping she would get 6th or 5th sometime just so she would stay interested. They were announcing 6th, 5th, 4th; and I kind of felt bad that she didn't make the cut. Then they announce "and first place with a jump of 16"25, Jessica Nichols from Perry". I about fell out of the bleachers. Track just seems to be her sport.

I was talking with her last night and she told me she hates track becuase she gets so nervous and feels sick. She said it is the worst feeling in the world. I told her everyone feels that way but at least she is doing well. I think she is feeling alot of pressure being one of the top times in the state and being a freshman. She tends to put pressure on herself, which is what makes her competitive in all of her sports but it could also be her demise. I try to just talk with her and help her put things in perspective. Track is just one sport out of the four she plays. People don't put pressure on her, they are excited for her.

I told her that she if she gets beat, it is just one race on one day and it wouldn't be the end of the world. I think she is nervous about losing in the 400, she hasn't been beaten yet this year and she feels pressure each time she runs.

Drew had a baseball scrimmage. He plays first base and pitches. He does a great job at first, had a fair performance at pitching. He only walked one batter but gave up two runs. This was the first time he has pitched all year so it should be his worst outing. The weather had been so bad, I haven't had a chance to work with him this year.

He batted well. Got on all three times at bat. Two hits and a walk. I think they should have a pretty good team this year and I am excited to watch the games.

Sorry this was a bit long today. So much going on.

I miss you all.

SUNNY MONDAY!

We are finally getting some good weather. It looks like it is going to be in the 70's today. Jess has a track meet today so it will be good for her to be able to run in good weather for a change.

Drew has a scrimmage tonight. He is pretty excited about it. I am going to go to Jessica's track meet since I will only be able to see her run a few times this year and since Drew's baseball event is a scrimmage. He was a little dissapointed when I told him but he understands. I figure when Jess is gone, I will see all of his HS events. No conflicts.

The kids and I went kite flying yesterday. It was a really nice day and we just had to take advantage of it. I have some pictures but can't find the USB cord so I will post them tomorrow. House of magic, remember.

About a week away from the Microsoft trip. It will be good to get away.

Slow It Down Sunday

Saturday was a busy one. Jessica had a track meet in Saydel. The weather was pretty crappy. It was cold with wind gusts that made it even colder. When the sun would come out it would get better but the sky was full of clouds so the sun moments were few and far between.

Jess did well. She ran a 61.40 second 400. It was a close race. They had to have a photo finish to determine the winner. Jess won by a tenth of a second. The girl from Saydel ran 61.50 seconds. She was tired but happy. This was her first gold medal of the year! I checked online this morning and her time puts her 5th in the state for 3A schools. The top time in the state is 61.25 seconds. She is 2 tenths from number 1 in the state. Not too bad for a freshman.

I think she can get below the 60 second mark but it will take some effort and good weather. Like most things in life, hard work and a little luck. She ran 3 400's yesterday. The open 400 then she ran the sprint medley relay. They got 4th in that. By the time she got the batan it was pretty much over. She closed the gap but that was about all she could do. Her split in that was 61.6 seconds so she did really well that time too. The third event was the 4x400 relay. It was only about twenty minutes between the last two event she ran and she was tired. She was tearin up and caring on a bit because she didn't think she could do it. I told her to suck it up and run. After a bit of a snotty exchange between the two of us, she ran the race and they go second. Once again by the time she got the batan it was over. She was in second when she got the batan and she kept them there. She ran a 65 seconds this time. Not as good but considering she was tired and had no chance of catching the first place runner, it wasn't too bad.

Drew had baseball practice last night. He is batting really well. He popped two balls to the fence and is really doing a nice job on first base. He told me the other day that he loves baseball and that it is his second favorite sport behind football. Kind of a suprise for me because I thought he would have said basketball but as long as he is having fun, that is what is important. He is going to play first base and pitch this year. I really hate it when he pitches because the pressure I feel in the stands is almost unbearable!

Drew has a scrimmage monday night and Jessica has a track meet monday as well. Not sure what I will do yet.
