It was quite a race

The weather was perfect yesterday for a track meet. It looks like we are in for similar weather today.

Jess got 2nd at the state meet yesterday in the 400. She ran her fastest time of the year, 56.98 seconds. The girl that beat her ran 56.87. It was very, very close. She was very happy because the best time she ran this year was 58.10 so even though she didn't get the gold, she had a great time.

They will meet again in the Sprint Medley relay. Both Jess and this girl are the anchor legs and they are seeded #1 and we are seeded #2. We have a shot at getting a gold in that event.

Today she runs in the 4x400 relay. It is a preliminary round so they just have to be in the top 8 teams to advance to the finals on Saturday afternoon.

Drew has a field trip today. They are going to a park and playing games but also helping clean up the park. The weather will be really good for this. He is looking forward to it. He also is going to a play tonight. It is the stage version of the book "Holes". I think there are 30 or 40 kids going. It is a school thing.

I played my first round of golf last night and really sucked. I shot a 54 but had most of my strokes in the first three holes. I hit two balls in the pond on hole number 2 and one ball in the pond on hold number 3. I did pull it together at the end a parred the last three holes. I did drink a little beer and we ended up getting three out of four points.

I got a little sun burned yesterday so the sun screen definitely has to go on today. The parking at the track meet is a mess and it cost $8 to get in. Between the cost of gas, admission and food, this is costing a small fortune. Well worth it to watch the Goose run though.

Overall we had 5 runners from Perry run yesterday. Daphney Baumgartner got 23rd in the 3000 meter run. Abby Sohn got 23rd in the 200. Christina Cole ran the 400 with Jess and I think got 18th or somewhere around that and our one boy qualifier James Collingsworth got 9th in the boys 400 meter dash.

We will see how the day goes.

Money grubbing, dirty rotten, filthy bastards

Today is a big day! Jess runs the open 400 at State and the weather is going to cooperate. It is going to be an exciting day.

Drew had a baseball game last night and they won. He played third base the whole game and had 5 outs. He fielded the ball and threw the out to first base three times and had a couple plays at third. He also had the game saving out on third when a kids tried to steal and the catcher threw the ball to Drew and he tagged the kid out.

I taught class for the last time for awhile. It went ok but the group is a little difficult and they really don't want to be there. I am glad it is over.

Jess got interviewed for the radio yesterday after practice. She was very excited about it and it should air this morning at 7:10. I can't wait to hear it. It should play a few more times throughout the day.

If you want to watch the track meet and see Jess run LIVE. Here is the link: http://www.ihssn.com/events.aspx?sport=track

I just found out it cost 6 bucks to watch it. Last year it was free and this year the bastards are charging. That sucks. I was going to have it stream at the high school today but I don't think it will work if I have to pay for the damn thing. Money grubbing sons of bitches!!!!

Ok, I will have much more to write tomorrow.

Go Jayettes!!! and the Goose!!!

California Dreamin to get me through the day

So there seems to be a day every week that is just one of the days you really want to just get past. Today is that day for me. We have another school district coming to visit and take a look at our student information system. I am not looking forward to it. It is kind of being a host of a party you didn't want to throw.

I also have to teach class tonight. It is the last one until August though, so that is good.

Here are some bright points about today.
  • The weather is good
  • It is early out
  • I plan on having Subway for lunch
  • It will be over in less than 24 hours

Tomorrow is the start of the state track meet. It is probably the most important day for Jess becuase it is her chance to get a gold in the 400. I am not sure if she will or not but I am sure she will run as hard and fast as she can. You can't ask anymore than that.

Jess was told yesterday that the softball coach said all the track girls are going to have to sit out for 4 games for missing practice. She is a little ticked off about that but whatever. It is not like they are off screwing around. They are at track practice for crying out loud. We will just wait and see how it goes.

Drew has a baseball game tonight. Of course I am going to miss it becuase I teach class. It is away. I think at Woodward. He has a pretty big week this week. He is going on a field trip Friday and then to a play Friday night.

Golf league starts tomorrow and I think the weather is going to be good. I am sure I will stink up the course but I don't really care. Of all the things in life to be worried about, my crappy golf game is about 1 billionth on the list.

I am looking forward to the California trip. A little over a month away!

The state track meet can be watched LIVE online. I will post the site information and the times that Jess runs tomorrow.

When I button my jeans, I resemble a muffin top!

Weather the rest of this week is looking better. I think the state track meet is going to be good. I just hope the wind is not going to blow.

Drew had a baseball game last night and it went into extra innings. He played 1st base, left field and pitched an inning. They ended up losing but scored 8 runs.

The class I taught last night was kind of a drag. It went slow and the material was very detailed and obsure. I missed a step in one of the exercises and it kind of messed things up for a bit. We had to go back and make the change. I kind of felt unorganized. Oh well, one more to go.

I don't believe I have anything on the calendar for today. Nancy and I are going to clean the server room. We have another school district visiting tomorrow and I don't want to be embarassed by the mess in that room. They are coming to look at our student information system. I probably need to prepare a little demo of how we use it and some of the features.

Jess had track practice last night. The track coach talked to the softball coach and told her, she didn't want the track girls practicing softball this week. After track practice, Jess went to the softball field and talked to the coach and she seemed pretty cool about it.

This is a busy week but I have this evening free. Whoo-hoo! The only plans I have for tonight is to make dinner and watch "Hell's Kitchen".

We had a big raid on one of the meat packing plants in north eastern Iowa. They detained around 300 suspected illegal immigrants. I am sure the folks here in town are a bit nervous as well. The last guess from one of the hispanic support organizations was that we had about 30%, give or take 10%, of our hispanic population were illegal. I am sure we will eventually get raided. The biggest issue we as a school district faces is what to do with the kids, who's parents are detained. I know there is a plan but I declined to be on the committee so am out of the loop on the details.

I guess every day is an adventure. You just never know what is going to happen.

Let the adventure begin!

The girl did good!

The weather today is going to be almost perfect. The sun is going to shine, the sky is going to be blue and the temperature is going to be in the 70's. I think the wind is going to be blowing pretty good but other than that, it is going to be great.

Jess had a very good track meet on Friday. She won the 400 with a time of 58.25 but she would have had an even better time but she almost fell. She was about 50 yards from the finish line and she tripped on the track. She stubled and almost fell but kept her balance and finished. My guess is she would have had a 57.2 or less without the stumble.

She also won the 800 and the Sprint Medley relay. The 4x4 relay ended up third but had a fast enought time to qualify for state. She is going to State in 4 events.

She runs the 400 on Thursday afternoon, the 4x400 prelim round on Friday, the Sprint Med and the 800 Saturday morning and if they make it out of the prelims in the 4x400 they will run in the final Saturday night.

Three regional gold medals and 4 state qualifiying events is a pretty good day.

This week Drew has a baseball game here in Perry tonight. I teach class so I will miss it. He also has one Wednesday and I also teach that night. I will finally be done teaching on Wednesday so I shouldn't miss anything else.

Jess will run this weekend and then next week they have their first softball game. The seasons don't have any break.

I start golf league this week but haven't really played at all yet so I am sure it will be quite the experience. I don't even care, it is just an excuse to get away, spend some time outside and drink a little beer.

My clothes dryer is broken again. I think I am just going to buy a new one. It seems like the one I have breaks down about twice a month. I am sick of fixing it. These classes I am teaching should cover the cost.

Only a few more weeks of school.
