For some reason, veins freak me out!

Football Friday begins today. The homecoming game is tonight and I hope we win. The bon fire was last night. Jess and Drew went. I haven't talked to them to find out how it went yet. I am sure it was fun.

Jess is going to the dance tonight. I think she is kind of regretting having a date because a bunch of her friends are going without dates and I think she would rather hang out with them. It seems to always be that way. If she wasn't asked out, EVERYONE else would have a date. Now that SHE has a date, EVERYONE else is going alone. The life of a high school student.

It is a big weekend for football. Iowa vs Iowa State is Saturday so this week has been full of trash talking between the two rival fans. The beloved Huskers have a battle with USC Saturday night. I hope they win! I also want to see the Notre Dame vs Michigan. Both teams without a win and desperate. I love it!

I am looking forward to work today. I have some things to do of course but as I checked my calendar this morning, it seems to be a pretty slow day. How awesome is that? I probably just jinxed myself and a system will crash and it will be a busy day. Right now, however; it looks good.

Big Brother 8 was pretty good last night. Dick and Daniel are the final two. I was hoping it would turn out that way.

Have a great weekend - GO HUSKERS!

How can book smart people be so dumb?

Weather was good this morning for the run. It was low 50's which was kind of nice. Still a bit too chilly to not wear a sweatshirt but it was much better than the last two days. The weather liars said that the low will be 38 Friday night into Saturday morning.

For homecoming week. The high school had volunteer day. They let the kids out at 12:30 if they were with a staff member and they were volunteering for a community service project of some kind. The volleyball team did a free car wash. Jess said it was fun for the first few cars but every staff member in the building wanted their car washed for free so it was a lot of work. I think she had fun but they worked hard.

Drew had a good practice last night they are working on special teams. Even though they won, they really struggled with punts and punt coverage so that was the emphasis for yesterdays practice.

Work is ok. Same old, same old. It seems that things are slowing down a bit and the days aren't so hectic. Right now I am having to deal with administrative stuff that kind of stinks.

I have an early morning meeting this morning so I don't have much time to write.

I should have more time tomorrow----FRIDAY!!!!! Whoooo-Hoooo!!!!

If a word is mispelled in the dictionary, is it mispelled?

The weather is a touch on the cold side this morning. As I went for my run it was 41 degrees! WHOOOO! What a way to wake up!

I took an alternate route today. It is still very dark. There hasn't been a moon out this week and it makes the roads very, very dark. I ran in town today but I hate to do it because running on pavement is hard on the old bones.

Drew's team won last night. He played pretty well. He could use a bit more agression but he is a gentle kids so what can you do. He did get a sack and a couple of tackles. They won 18-6.

The volleyball team won last night as well. I didn't hear any details because I was in bed when they got home but Jess said they won. I will find out more about it today.

I am on the verge of turning on the heat! It is cold in the house but I think I will wait until it is going to be cold for awhile. The basement where the kids sleep is warm so they are fine. We are gone all day so there is no sense in wasting the energy to heat an empty house and it will be warm this afternoon anyway.

Hump day today. Early out at school but I don't think there are any events going on. It is homecoming week and there is a bon fire tomorrow night and then the game and dance on Friday.

Nancy brought in Fried Chicken and Cheesy potatos for lunch yesterday and we have leftovers for today and tomorrow so I am excited about lunch this week. It is a nice change from the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. (I did have one of those for dinner last night - I'm addicted to them)

I have every intention of putting more pictures up on the site but just haven't gotten around to it. I will, once again, try this week.

If you don't like how I drive, stay off the sidewalk!!!

Today is game day! Drew has his first football game today at 4:15. I am really looking forward to it. Jess plays at 5:30(jv) and 7:30 (Varsity) at Huxley (against Ballard).

I have quite a bit of stuff to do at work today, which is nothing new but it is getting old.

It is kind of chilly today. The current temp is 49 and I think it was colder earlier. There is a cold front coming our way and I think the highs for Thursday and Friday are going to be in the mid 60's. Whooo---chilllly!

I have been watching the TV show Big Brother 8 and they are down to the final four. They are fighting for the "Power of Veto" tonight so it is a big episode. I get caught up in stupid stuff like this but it is a nice get away from work so I really enjoy it.

During the day it seems I have to concentrate most of the day so when I get home, I just want to "not think". TV allows me to do that. Just sit and veg out.

I started running again this week. Hopefully it lasts. I went out this morning at 4:45 am and it was REALLY DARK! I run out in the country and down by the river and it was kind of spooky. I use Jessica's Ipod when I run and I actually turned it down to stay a bit more alert of my surroundings. It was so dark that I couldn't even see the intersection until I was a few steps from the crossroad.

So I am running along and I am just about to get to an intersection coming back into town and I could see headlights, which was actually a bit comforting, I kind of slow down as I approach the intersection and move to the right so I would be in the opposite lane as they crossed. Just as I get to the turn, the car turns and cuts short so they damn near hit me. I mean it was so close that I just put out my hands and stopped because there was no way to get out of their way at this point.

The car was going slow so they stoppped. It was a police car so I stopped and he had the window down. He apologized and said he saw something in the sky he had never seen before so he was going to check it out (another comforting though for my run tomorrow).

Nothing comes as close to a heart attack as being completely out of breath, heart pounding fast and then almost hit by a car. Man! The heart really takes a leap!

I might have to run a bit later in the morning.

More tomorrow.

I don't know what your problem is but I'm pretty sure its hard to pronounce!

So it seems that we went from the 90's to the 70's in the span of a week. I have often complained about the dang heat and humidity but now we are getting almost cold. The current temp is 56 and we are expecting the lows to be in the mid to low 40's this week. Even with the colder air, it is much better than the heat and humidity. It also makes the grass grow slower.

Drew went to a birthday party this weekend. They went to Des Moines and stayed in a hotel. He came home around noon the next day and hadn't slept a wink. He went right to bed. I let him sleep until 3:30 and then he had to go cut Nancy's lawn. It is his summer job and he decided to not do it before the party so he had to pay the price and do it while he was tired. He went and mowed and then went back to bed.

I made pancakes for dinner last night. I didn't have bisquick so I had to make them from scratch. They turned out pretty good if I do say so myselft. Jess eats hers with chocolate chips and on top she puts peanut butter and syrup. A bit odd but whatever.

It is picture day at the school. I am going to force Nancy go get her picture taken this year so she can get a school ID. The kids have their clothes picked and and ready to go.

They both have games tomorrow night. Drew plays his first football game and it is here in Perry. Jess plays in Ballard. I think maybe the game is in Huxley but the team is Ballard.

It is homecoming week here. We also have the Iowa vs Iowa State game this weekend and the huskers play USC this weekend as well.

For homecoming, they have a bon fire Thursday night and the big game on Friday. I hope we do well. We are 1-1 and have a bunch of tough competion this year so it may be a challenging season.

I still have my golf clubs in my trunk. I am signed up for a tournament on the 23rd but haven't heard if they are going to have it. The numbers were low for the signup so they were going to cancel. I am indifferent either way but I would like that tournament to survive.
