Andy Rooney really needs to trim his eye brows

The weather yesterday was very odd. It was hot and humid all day until around 4 then a huge thunder storm blew through. It blew and and blew over. Within and hour, the storm had passed and the sky was sunny. I think we got about 4/10 of an inch of rain. It was enough to cancel golf league last night but the softball games were played. They were delayed by about a half an hour but the field was in good shape and they played both games.

Jess had a solid outing. She did a very nice job on first and made some good digs out of the dirt. She was up to bat 5 times, I think, and got on base 3 times. The other two times she was fielded out at first so no strike outs. The team won both games and are on a four game winning streak. They are supposed to play in a tournament today but the weather may alter those plans.

Little Drew mowed Nancy's lawn yesterday while it was very hot and humid. It was good for him to get some work done and I think he is starting to feel a bit of pride when he does a good job. It is nice to see him grow into a young man and take on responsibilities.

Today is the last day I will be in the office for over a week. I have a few things to finish up but don't plan on having too much of a hectic day. I have no appointments scheduled and plan to just get things in order while I am away.

I did not get a chance to take pictures last night. I am like a news broadcast that keeps telling you that the story you want to see is coming up next and a half hour later you are still waiting for the damn thing. "The story you really are watching us for will be coming up......after the break."

One of my friends is going through some medical issues. He has high chloresterol and is a high risk group. His dad died young of heart trouble so he is being monitored closely. He is on a special diet and also has some issues with his liver. It is hard knowing he has to go through all this but he is a good guy and seems to be doing well. I guess if all I have to worry about is going bald, I should thank my lucky stars.

I wish flatulation was a viable fuel alternative

I have made it to Thursday. It seems there is so much to do at work before I leave for California but I have little to no desire to get it done. Did I mention I signed my contract yesterday for another year?

Jess had a game last night and it was an good hour drive from here. It was a long night. I didn't get home until 10:45 and she didn't get home until after 11. They won and she had a good outing. She batted three time and got a single and was fielded out twice. No strike outs last night! She did a very nice job on first and had a few very nice grabs. The team won 4-1. It was a pretty good game and they really are playing well defensively. If they could just put more point on the board they would be a very good team.

Drew went to the game with me and we sat together. It was really nice. We had a good father-son time and I think of it as one of the "quality" moments that you can never plan for. I hope he will sit with me more often during games.

I golf tonight. Jess has a varsity/varsity game so she playes two games back to back, a double header of sorts. I am planning on going to the game after I finish golfing. I am going to miss her games tomorrow and will be gone next week so I would like to see her play.

I am hoping golf goes well again this week. It is good to be out in the nice weather, drinking a little beer and having a good golf round. In the man world, that is about as good as it gets.

I hope to get more pictures posted soon. My phone ran out of battery last night before the game so I didn't get any pictures taken last night.

Hump day sounds perverse

As the summer moves along, Tuesday may be one of my favorite days. That seems to be the only day of the week that we don't have any activities. Drew doesn't have practice and Jess doesn't have games. It is day that the kids and I can hang out and just have fun.

In previous posts I have mentioned that I watch the show Man vs Wild. In this show he uses a flint, most of the time, to start a fire. In early episodes however, he used two pieces of wood and two sticks. He sharpened up one stick on both ends to a dull point. Then he took his shoe lace and made a bow out of the other stick. He used the bow to spin the other stick. One piece of wood was on the ground and the other he held on top of the stick to maintain pressure and keep it in place.

So last night the kids and I tried to replicate this task. We found the wood, the sticks, used a shoelace and got to work. Let me tell you, it is work but we got the thing to smoke and I think if I had to make the fire start we could have got it done. I ended up getting tired of being bitten by bugs and quit but I really think we could do it. I told the kids we would make it work one of these nights. I kept the bow and the wood we used.

We also watched "Americas got talent" on TV last night. It is an ok show but I thought it would be fun to participate so we took a buzzer out of one of our games and we buzzed the contestants like the judges. We even expressed why we buzzed them, like the judges do. The kids had fun and I think it will be a weekly tradition.

I also made spaghetti last night. A big batch to have left overs for a couple of days. With games and such it is hard to get a decent meal. We typically resort to fast food. Now we have something better in the fridge. Spaghetti is always better the second day anyway.

Jess has a game tonight. It is away so I will pickup Drew after work and we will head up.

We are supposed to get rain this afternoon, tomorrow and into Friday. I hope it doesn't impact the games or, heaven forbid, my golf night.

Tuesdays are for suckers

We missed the bad weather yesterday; or should I say the bad weather missed us? It looks like we got about 1/4 inch of rain and did not have much in the line of thunder and lightning

Jess had a game last night. They lost. She had a very good night fielding but was 0-2 batting and watched the third strike both times. It was a close game. The other team scored in the first inning. There was two out and we walked the third batter. The fourth batter hit a home run and scored two. That was the end of the scoring for the game. We were in position once to score but other than that it was a defensive battle.

Drew had practice last night at 7:30. Kind of late for a practice but it was fine because we were all down at the ball park anyway so at least it was convenient. He has weight lifting today at 7:45. Jess has drivers ed at 7, softball practice at 9 and then volleyball at 11.

Drew and I have to cut grass tonight. He has two yards to cut and I have to mow ours. Oh what fun!

I have been in the mood for a vodka lemonade as of late. Maybe I will have one of those after I get done with the yard work this evening.

Muggy Monday

The weekend went by very fast. The weather was nice but hot and humid. Yesterday it was hot, humid and windy and today it is supposed to rain. (1 to 3 inches of rain possible)

Drew had a baseball game on Friday. I was the ump and my legs are still a bit sore from the 300 or so lunges it takes to be in position. His team lost. They seemed to have a very bad game. They had been doing so well but this was about as bad as I have seen them play all year. Oh well, only one more game. He has had a good time and that is what was important.

A friend of his had a birthday party on Saturday. They went tubing down a river. He had a good time but got a little sun burned and had a rash from the life vest. It was one of those deals where the company drops you off at a spot on the river and then picks you up about 8 miles down river. I thought it was a fun idea for the kids to do. He is always out doing something.

Jess had a game Friday. They won. She is the varisity first baseman. She had a fair outing at bat and did well on defense. They play every night this week with the exception of Tuesday. Since it is supposed to rain tonight I wonder if they will get rescheduled to tomorrow.

She had a basketball game last night. They got beat. She said she is not in basketball shape and it almost killed her running up and down the court last night. It is good for her since she doesn't really get any conditioning in softball.

Saturday night we sat outside and had a bunch of kids running around. They used sidewalk chalk on our driveway and Jess decided to draw outlines of bodies like in the movies. Each kid took turns laying down and she outlined them. They were labeled "Body #1, Body #2, etc.". It was pretty funny. Our driveway is now a work of art.

I leave for California on Sunday. It seems like the trip is rushing upon me. It really hasn't sunken in that I will be gone a week from today. It should be a fun trip but taking classes is never a fun time.

So I watch the Discovery channel from time to time and like this show called Man vs Wild. The guy in the show was in Africa and was getting dehydrated so he found a recently laid elephant poop and squezed it and drank the fluid out of it. You would really have to be thirsty to drink elephant poop water! Damn!

I havent't posted any pictures in awhile so I will take some this week and get them posted.
