You know I am not going to have the salad

Even though it was supposed to be a short week, it seemed like a long one to me. The weather yesterday was crappy. Sleet in the morning. Actually I am not sure what it was, it was little balls of ice. Not quite hail but not rain either. It made the roads slick and it was cold.

Yesterday afternoon we got some snow. What a wonderful treat that was....NOT!

Today the weather is supposed to be ok. Highs in the low 40's but sun. The track meet that was supposed to be yesterday was moved to today. It will be a cold one so Jess will have to make sure she keeps warm and stretches.

Drew had track practice and baseball practice yesterday. He has a 45 minute baseball practice indoors. It seems to me kind of a waste of time to have that short of a practice but whatever. It is more of a hassle for the parents to drop off and then come right back and pick up again.

The tech department is celebrating Nancy's birthday today. We are going to Breaduex pizza for lunch and having a little celebration. So much for my diet.

I have been dreaming crazy dreams lately. Not sure what that is all about. I can't remember the dreams in the morning but I remember waking up in the middle of the night and thinking, "What the hell was that all about?". Anyway, I think I am going to take a notepad and pencil and put it on my nightstand so when I have one of these dreams, I can write it down before I go back to sleep. I will keep you posted on that one.

It is going to be a busy weekend and I think I am going to take my laptop with me. Jess has a volleyball tournament and I have staff evaluations to get done so I think I will do that in between games. I might as well do something productive while I am waiting. That is really the things about tournaments. They play, then they have a game or two off, then they play again, and this continues on throughout the day. Usually it is just one game in between their games but over the course of a day, that is a bunch of sitting around.

I will let Drew decide if he wants to go or not. The tournament is in Des Moines and we should be home by 6 so if he wants to stay home, I think I will let him. He can always call if he needs anything and Nancy is right across the street so he should be fine. Besides he has our ferocious watch dog to help him out.

Husker Spring practice started this week. It is nice to have a little taste of football to get me through the rest of spring and summer. Here is my first shout-out of the year - GO BIG RED!

Have a good weekend.

What the hell is going on? SNOW!!!! Give me a break.

The weather today is less than desireable. Originally it was going to be in the 50's but Mother Nature decided to stick it to us and now we are going to be in the upper 30's.

Jess has a track meet today and I think there is a good chance they will cancel it. This really sucks because there is only 2 home track meets all year and this will be the second year in a row that we had to cancel one of them.

Class went well last night. My Wednesday night group is really a joy to teach. They are all pleasant and participate. Only 4 more classes left and the semester is over.

I had an Adjunct Council meeting yesterday and it went well. It is nice to meet other Adjuncts and get a little involved in the campus. When I just teach in Perry, I am very much removed from the rest of the college. Being part of this group makes me feel more like I am part of the staff. It is nice.

I would like to get my Masters degree so as I get older I could teach at the college level full time. It is a good pace, you meet a lot of good people and you don't have the weight of the world on you all the time. It also pays pretty well so that would be nice too. I could also teach indefinitely so I wouldn't have to worry about how I hold up as I get older.

The rest of the week should move by pretty smoothly. I have a bunch of work stuff to deal with but as far as meetings, it should be better. I do have a meeting this morning at 9 but I think that is it for the rest of the week.

My tenants are moving into the house this weekend. They are wanting to move their stuff in but not take posession until the 1st. I told them they could move in this weekend if they put the utilities in their name. If they did that, I wouldn't charge them rent until the 1st. They agreed so we will do a walk through Saturday morning.

Jess have a volleyball tournament that day and will have to leave early so I will have to drive up after the walk through. I hate taking two cars with the gas prices so high but what can I do? I filled up my car last night and it cost me $42. That is a lot. I guess until we all just stop driving so much, the prices will just continue to go up. Refer back to taking two cars to Des Moines this weekend. I appear to be part of the problem.

Off to start the day....Trash day (Filthy Bastards!)

Me and Hillary, I got shot and she got shot at in the war

We are have arrived at the middle of the week already. I have decided I like the term "Peak day" like a mountain peak; instead of "hump day" like a dog and a stuffed animal. The week is moving along quickly but there are many activities ahead so we will see how the rest of the week goes.

Jess had her track meet yesterday. They left at 7 am and the track meet started at 10. I called to check on her progress at 5:15 and she still hadn't run yet. They had 27 heats of the 400! What the hell is that all about? Waaaaaay too many teams. She ran a pretty good time 61.25 seconds, which is well ahead of her pace from last year at this time. In the 800, there were 23 girls in her heat; once again, what the hell is that all about? She got boxed in and ran 10 seconds slower than she did on Tuesday. She told me she just couldn't get around anyone without having to push someone out of the way.

There really is no sense in having that many teams at an indoor meet. My guess is that it is strictly a money maker for the university and the teams just want to get another meet in before the outdoor meets start.

Anyway, she didn't get home unitil late. Tonight she has track and volleyball practice. Since she missed school yesterday for track, we will have to see how much homework she has. If she has a bunch, she may have to miss volleyball practice.

Drew had a good track practice yesterday. It was cold but he said the practice was kind of fun. He is not one to complain so even if it sucked, he probably wouldn't say it.

I teach class tonight and I also have an Adjunt Council meeting today. I volunteered to be part of this committe to work on issues Adjuncts face and to provide some opportunities and events for our group. That meeting starts at 4:30 at West Campus and I teach at 6 there so it is not too bad of a deal.

I emailed the provost last week and let him know I would be interested in teaching again in the Fall. It would be nice if I can do it again.

Nancy has a birthday coming up. Saturday is the big day so we are going to have a litte birthday party for her Friday.

Thursday Jess has a home track meet. I signed up to work the event. My job is to be a "picker". Basically, I stand at the finish line and have a finish assignment. I tell them what lane my runner came in. There are 12 people at the finish line. 6 timers and 6 pickers. One timer and one picker per place so they can compare to make sure, in close races, that they agree on the places. I like it because I get paid $25 to watch Jess run and get the best seat in the house.

Off to start my day.

I heard the music and now it is time to pay the piper!

Spring break is officially over. The students, staff, phone calls, pop-ins, drama, and frustration all come back today. It was a good break and in a way I am kind of glad things are getting back to normal. The sooner we get on with things, the sooner it will be Summer break time.

I taught class last night, it was ok. I let them out early. I was at a point that we were either going to be there until 10 or we were going to get out around 9. The next unit was a long one and I am pretty sure it would have taken a hour or more so I just cut class short and we will start with that next week.

Jess had track practice yesterday afternoon and volleyball practice last night. She heads out this morning for a track meet at UNI. The bus leaves at 7:20 so she will be up and at it early this morning.

The week for her is going to be busy. She has track and volleyball practice Wednesday. A track meet Thursday and a volleyball tournament this weekend. Busy girl.

Drew had baseball practice last night and they practiced outside. It was cold and windy so they only went for 1/2 an hour. He is happy to get practices underway.

Unless we get a huge snowfall again this year, the students are done with school on May 30. I am looking forward to warm weather. Right now we are on a bit of a roller coaster. Today it is going to be 61 so that is awesome. I am not sure what the wind will be like though.

I am not sure if I could be a bigger mess if I tried. I had/have my calf problem, the roof of my mouth is burned and still hurts and now I am getting a cold sore. What the hell is going on????

At least it is a short week this week.

Have good day!

Is it just me or does if feel like we are related to the Brittish?

It is the last day of Spring break and it is a bit dissapointing. I should be happy becuase most schools are going back today. At least we have one more day and that is a good thing. The only rain on the parade is I have to teach tonight. DMACC doesn't recoginize this additional day off so we are required to have class.

The weekend went pretty well. I didn't do a whole lot but it was nice to hang out with the kids. I don't get the chance to do that very often. Last night I made a new dish for them. I grilled chicken breast and then put them in a skillet with spaghetti sauce. I let it simmer for about 15 minutes and then put parasean and mozerella on top and baked it. I served the chicken breasts over buttery noodles and served a side of peas. I also make biscuits. The kids liked it and it was a nice change.

Saturday, the kids colored eggs for Easter. I had them make 18 eggs and we ate the ones that broke. I burned the roof of my mouth really bad. I forgot to set the timer for the eggs but thought I had set it. After awhile I went to check the timer and noticed it wasn't set. Well hell, I didn't know how long the eggs had been cooking so I pulled one out of the hot water, ran it under cold water for a bit, peeled it and tore it in half. It was done so I asked Drew if he wanted to eat half. I gave him half and, like a stupid ass, popped the other half in my mouth... The yoke of the egg was like a flaming tar that stuck to the roof of my mouth and burned like a mother. I spit it out and rinsed my mouth. I also put ice cubes in my mouth to try to minimize the damage.

The roof of my mouth is pretty raw. It is like I lost a layer or two of skin and it is sore. What was I thinking?

I was watching the history channel this weekend, which is a change from my reality television stations. Anyway, they had a couple of shows on things that were removed from the bible. It was very interesting. Things were actually pulled from the books. For instance, did you know Adam had a first wife before Eve? Her name was Lilleth and she was made from the dirt of the earth at the same time as Adam and was an equal. She refused to have sex with him and be subserviant. She insisted on being an equal and Adam disliked her. Long story short, she ended up speaking God's name, which was forbidden, and was sent away from the garden. God then created Eve from Adam's rib, which in the religious interpretation, made her subserviant and a bit of a possession of Adam.

Anyway, there are all kinds of stories like that that were simply removed for one reason or another by the religious leaders or politicians. Another one is that Joseph had a wife and she wasn't Jewish. She was the daughter of a Egyptian priest. Taboo! It was very interesting because historians agree this is the case.

The Drew has practice tonight at 7 and Jess has a track meet tomorrow. She actually will miss the whole day of school tomorrow because the track meet it 2 hours away and starts at 10:00 am. The bus leaves at 7:30. She also has a track meet here in Perry on Thursday. It is supposed to be nice pretty much all week except Thursday. It is supposed to rain.

Let the week begin.
