Happy Birthday Mom

Well the weather is cold and we are going to get colder with a mix of snow and ice. I don't think we are going to get too much accumulation but any ice is too much.

The girls basketball team won last night. I think by 15 or so. Jess scored 16 and had a good game. She wasn't the high scorer for the night. Trish Dorman scored 18 and played her best game of the year. It was an ok game. We jumped on them early and after we got the lead, Jefferson didn't come within 11.

Drew has a game here in Perry tonight. I hope he doesn't have to play guard. He is much stronger inside but they don't have any depth at guard. I guess we will see.

Today is the budget cut meeting. Not sure how I feel about that. I am almost a bit indifferent. My budget gets cut almost every year anyway so it seem like the norm but I think some people are kind of freaking out.

The weekend will be a long one. Jess' game Saturday at 3 and then off to Sterling, Illinois. I think it is about 4 hours. Kind of like driving to Exeter.

So I got my car fixed and I told you he estimated $600 but usually estimates high. Well thank God he estimated high again. It was only $598. Whew.... I would have hated to pay $600. Bastards!

Ok, off to start the weekend. Happy birthday mom. I am sure you have to work. Maybe they should give you your birthday off and you can sit on the other side of the bar for a night. What do you think?

Perpetual motion

Another day...blah, blah, blah.

Weather is the same. Cold but not abnormally so. There aren't any storms in the forecast.

I made manicotti for dinner last night and the kids really liked it. It had been awhile since I had made anything like that so it was nice to have.

I gave Molly a bath last night and she smells good right now. She is going to stay at Nancy's house this weekend so I wanted her to be clean and fresh.

Molly is hard to figure out. She barks and growls at strangers like she is going to attack them but she has her comfort people that she just loves. She loves Nancy and Dave and their grandkids she also likes the Schwann man. I think it is because he brings her a treat every time he comes. She doesn't even bark when she sees his truck pull up.

I don't have anything on the calendar today at work. It has been a pretty light week as far as meetings go, which is a good thing. I was really getting tired of all the meetings. We have a budget cut meeting tomorrow. The state has cut everything across the board 1.5 percent for this year. That means the money they gave us, they are taking back. (The bastards!)

We have to figure out where we are going to cut and each department has to take a hit. I went through my budget yesterday and have a plan.

Jess has a game tonight here in Perry against Jefferson-Scranton. Drew has a game here Friday and the Jess plays again here on Saturday.

I took my car in to get fixed yesterday. I have some type of dang gasket leak and my anti-freeze is leaking. The estimate was around $600(ugh!) It should be done today and I will see how much it cost. The mechanic I take it to, usually estimates high so I am hoping it is less than $600.

Ok, enough for now. Off to start.

Win Some, Lose Some

The weather is still holding up. I think it is going to be windy today but not too cold.

We had mixed success at the games last night. Drew's team lost by two but one of the point guards for the team was out of town so they had Drew play guard. He didn't fair that well. He said he sucked; threw the ball away, got it stolen, got beat off the dribble. He thought that the coach wouldn't put him at guard again. He is up early this morning for practice.

Jess' team won last night. They beat Dallas Center Grimes and they were ranked 8th in the state. Jess had a real good game. She led the team with 16 or 17 points and played good defense. It was a good win for the team. They are 3-1 in the conference and 5-2 overall. Not too bad for a team that lost all but one game last year.

It looks like I have enough students for both Monday and Wednesday night classes. It will start up next week so I need to get going on the prep. I really can't wait to the last minute since Jess has the volleyball tournament Sunday.

Things are going ok at work. Nothing really of note.

Tonight is a free night. No games or anything going on. It will be good to make the kids dinner and sit and talk with them awhile. It is amazing how little we actually get to sit around and just talk. Not sure what I will make for dinner tonight. Maybe manicotti.

Off to start.

Another day in Perrydise

Weather is following the average which is good. No snow in the near future and highs in the low 30's. Rather uneventful.

I wish work was as dull. Yesterday I was hoping for a slow day and it was the exact opposite. The first call came to my cell phone at 7:30 am and it was off and running through the rest of the day. The alt school and the elementary had connectivity issues. The elementary is still unable to get out of the building but I have a vendor coming in this morning to see what he can find.

I have a suspicion the vendor did something that knocked us down. I had work done in that building over break and he had to do some work with one of our switches. I am thinking he messed something up.

Both kids have games tonight. Drew's game is away and Jess has a game here in Perry against Dallas Center Grimes.

We got some information on the volleyball tournament in Illinois scheduled for Sunday. The coach said if we really suck it up play terrible, the earliest we would get done would be 6 PM. I sounds like it is going to be a long day ending with a 4 hour drive home Sunday night.

I have to get my syllabus ready for classes next week. I received an email from the Provost saying classes with 7 students or less may or may not be a go and they would make the decision by mid week. My Monday night class has 6 and my Wednesday night class has 7 so I am not sure if either one will be a go.

I am sure another busy day awaits so I am off to start.

The slate is clean as a new year begins

School is back in session today. The kids are not thrilled but it will be good for them to get back into a routine again.

The weather is ok. We had some ice on Saturday that made everything a mess but it seems ok now. We still have some slick areas and my sidewalk is still slick but it should melt over the next day or so.

The funeral for Nancy's mom was Friday. It was very nice. I haven't been to church in awhile (they are Catholic too). It was kind of good to get back to church but I don't think it will become a habit.

Nancy held up pretty well. I think her getting back to "normal" this week will help a bit.

Jess has basketball games Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday this week. She also has a volleyball tournament in Illinois Sunday.

Drew has a game this week on Friday but I think he might have a make-up game this week as well but I am not sure when.

The local newspaper put the top 20 sports pictures of the year in the paper last week. Jess was the number 2 picture (it was of her running at state and crossing the finish line neck and neck with another girl). She was also number 10 or 12 or something (showing a block in volleyball).

I start teaching class again next Monday so I still have another week of free evening, except for games.

I hope work is slow today. I would kind of like to ease into the swing of things again but who knows. It could be slow or it could be a mad house. It is always a crap shoot.

One thing for sure, it will be good to have Nancy back.

Off to start.
