The weekend is here with a bang. Thunderstorms are rolling across the state of Iowa and we have been getting a pretty good shower here. I think we are supposed to get rain on and off all day today but it is going to get much better tomorrow. The temp is warm so it is kind of nice.
Jessica had her track meet yesterday. She ran the 400, 4x100 relay and the 200. I haven't talked to her yet today so I am not sure how she thought she did. I think her times were good and I know she was the fastest time in the 4x100 relay.
Drew and I went to the movies last night. We went to Des Moines and ate at Culvers. Drew had never been there before so I thought he might like it. He said he wasn't hungry so I had a cheeseburger and he had cheese balls and a oreo cookie shake.
We had about an hour and a half to kill before the movie started so we went to the American store and played with the stereo equipment. The salesman was kind of irritated because we were just pushing buttons and trying stuff out. He kept saying "Can I help you?" I just kept sayying "no". lol.
We then messed around in the home theater area, cell phone area and TV section. Our last stop was the mattress area. We tried all the mattresses that I will never be able to afford. Then I took him to the ones I can afford and he said "These are hard!"lol
The movie we saw was "Wild Hogs". It is the movie with John Travolta, Tim Allen and two other guys that have a little motorcycle club. The four of them just ride around every Sunday and they decide to take a trip across the country.
It is a funny movie and I would recommend it.
Today is the start of the weekend. No real plans at this point but you just never know what will happen.

Fish Friday
Friday has arrived very quickly this week. Since we have had a week of no students or staff at school it has been a very good week. As with all good things, they come to an end. Here it is Friday already. Most weeks I am looking forward to Friday and am so happy when it arrives. This week Friday comes with a touch of sadness as Spring Break comes to an end.
How many of you are eating fish today? I have kind of given up, giving things up for lent. Easter is just around the corner and it seems as if we are having typical spring weather for now. Lots of rain but the temp is good so it sort of evens out.
Jessica and I had a nice night at home alone last night. Dawn and Drew were at one of Dawn's friends house. The woman has a son and her son is one of Drew's friends so they were gone for most of the night. Jessi and I played a little basketball. (I still can beat her but she is getting much, much better. It won't be long.) We had a little dinner and then watched some tv and chatted. These times have become precious to me. They happen rarely so I enjoy them when they do. Kids grow up so fast.
I am looking forward to summer and the weather getting nice. I also wouldn't mind swinging the old golf clubs again.
I looked for some new pictures on the digital camera but there wasn't much there. I will try to get some pictures taken this weekend.
A relatively uneventful blog today but you can't be a rock start everyday. :)

Wet Wednesday
It was officially Spring last night at 7:07 PM. Today we have clouds and rain with the potential for some severe weather. On the bright side, it looks like Friday is going to be in the 60's and nice.
I wanted to post some pictures today but I could not find the dang digital camera. I found the USB cord but the camera seems to have dissapeared from the "House of Magic". I should probably elaborate on the "House of Magic" deal.
My house is a magic house! Things dissapear, lights turn on by themselves and things get broken with no explanation. Now in most homes you would think the children would be the cause of most of these events.....Not Here. The kids assure me that they turned off all the lights in the basement, however; when I check there is a light or two, still on. Must be magic! We lose the remote control to the tv or in this case the digital camera. The kids assure me they put it back on the end table. Must be magic! Something gets broken in the house. The kids assure me that they have no idea what happened. Must be magic!
Like I said I live in a magic house where nobody is aware of how all of those things occur.
On a different subject - Throughout the last 5 or 6 years I have made up stories to tell the kids when we go on long drives or when we are just sitting around bored. These stories are typically pretty long and involve a young person or animal having an adventure. Most of the stories are just made up on the fly as we drive along the road or sit around talking but the kids seem to enjoy them. Jessica is always wanting me to continue with a story or tell her another one.
What I have decided to do is to type up these stories into a collection and give it to the kids for them to keep. I also had a stipulation to them recieving the stories. They must tell those stories to their kids when they get older and add one to the collection themselves. They must also only give these stories to thier kids if they promise to do the same. I figure over time it may be a nice collection of stories and will be interesting from generation to generation. I really hope they follow through with this. As for my part; I started typing the stories into the computer a week ago. It will probably take me a few months or longer to get them all type in but I will get it done.
Ok, enough for now. More tomorrow.

Raining on my parade
So mother nature decided to stick it to me on spring break. I am not bitter that others are off on magical vacations at tropical locations. No...that does phase me at all. Everyone deserves a break and those who are able to get away----good for them. I am not bitter that I have a bunch of work to do while others are bathing in the sun.....Nope, doesn't get to me. What does get to me is that while others are off having their time in the sun, we are covered in clouds and rain back here in Iowa.
Would it hurt the good lord to cast a little sunshine my way? Would it be a universal dissaster to let a warm breeze blow through our trees? I mean, WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!!!! RAIN-----ALL WEEK! Give me a break.
Ok, now that those thoughts are out of my system........
Things went pretty well at work yesterday. Replaced a server and it seemed to go smoothly and we didn't even have to work late to get it done. We are on pace for the weeks tasks and hopefully today will be just as productive.
I hope things are going well for all of you. I miss you and think of you often.

SPRING BREAK!!!
WHOOO HOOO! Spring break has arrived. I have a bunch of "to-do's" on my list for this week at work but it is a good chance that I will get them done with everyone gone on break. It is always nice to have these little breaks because it gives me a chance to get caught up on all the things I have either been putting off or have not had time to do.
It snowed here Satuday. What a drag! It was warmer but with a cold wind on Sunday. I spent the morning chainsawing a tree branch that fell down in the yard from the big snow storm earlier this year. I also got my Christmas lights down.....Finally! A couple of naps were in order this weekend as well. I figure since I am not going anywhere for spring break at least I can take a nap or two as a treat to myself.
Jessica had her belated birthday party this weekend. There should be pictures to the left showing some of that. I also posted some pictures of her AAU volleyball team.
Drew was busy with a friend this weekend. His friend Cory spent the night here Friday and Drew spent the night at his house on Saturday. Sunday he was out and about until I finally made him come home around 5:30. He went down stairs and fell asleep on the couch.
I will write more tomorrow.

Thursday Smursday
I am finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Spring break starts tomorrow so the focus is getting through the day today. It has been a long week and it seems like I have only been home to sleep as of late. Monday was the track meet, Tuesday I taught class and didn't get home until after 9, and Wednesday I taught class and got home close to the same time. One more night of teaching class and I am done for the summer.
Drew went to the doctor yesterday because I noticed he hasn't been running or walking well over the last year. He is always on his toes and is just not right. He had a heal problem during football season and he just has never gotten better. The doctor said the bones are growing faster than the tendons so he has problems in the achilies area. He has to wear a brace at night to try to get the tendon to strech and match the bone length. The doc said it would have never corrected by itself so it was good he came in.
It looks like the weekend is going to be decent on the weather front so I will finally get a chance to get the yard cleaned up. We had a bunch of tree branches down from the big snow fall and I need to get my chainsaw out and cut it all up. I also need to take down my Christmas lights. (I know, what the hell have I been doing that they are still up...)
I ordered a quarter beef last month and it arrived this week. It will be nice having all of that available for BBQ as the weather gets better.
It doesn't seem like this post has anything interesting in it but that is kind of how my life has been lately.
ps - I plan to get some pictures up this weekend!

Who needs Florida?
We are having some awesome weather here in the state of Iowa. It was in the uppper 50's yesterday and will hit 75 today! We are having Florida weather without the attitude and violence (ha ha). The only problem we are having right now is the water levels are high and we are having a bit of flooding and a bunch of water in the fields from all the snow melt.
Jessi did well at the track meet last night. In the Sprint Medley relay, which is a 100, 100, 200, 400, they did pretty well. Jessica was the 400 leg and pasted two girls to pull off first place in her heat. There were 11 heats however, and they ended up 31st out of 74. It was a huge meet and a bunch of big schools - Des Moines East, and Hoover and other big 4A teams. 74 teams from all over the state. I think there were over 700 girls participating. They ran a time of 2:03 and the winning time was 1:54. They are all young runner so they will have a chance to do much better in the future. That team consists of 3 freshmen and a sophomore.
She also ran the 4x400. It was ugly! We came in 4th in our heat and we were not in the fastest heat. By the time Jessica got the batan she was in a distant 4th place. She closed the gap and but couldn't make up the distance on the 3rd place runner. They don't have a good group of 400 runners and I don't see that getting any better this year. Jess may be better in just the open 400. They didn't have that event at this meet.
Drew and I rode up to Ames for the meet and he spent most of the night playing on the high jump mats with a bunch of little boys. When it was time to leave he was all sweaty and happy as a clam. We left after Jessica ran her last event she was heat 3 out of 9 and didn't get home until 11:00 pm. I rarely see that time of night especially on a weekday.
I forgot to take the camera so I have no pictures to post of the track meet. I will try to do better in getting pictures on the site.
Miss you all.
