This week is really moving along. It is already Wednesday. Update on the track meet and Drew's baseball scrimmage
Jessica got 1st in the long jump, 1st in the 400 (her time was 1:00:97), 2nd in the sprint medley relay and 4th in the 4x400 relay. I am not sure what the heck it up with the long jump. She has only practiced it twice in practice and this is only the second meet that she attempted it. We were hoping a field event would just help her fill out her day. I really didn't think she would do as well as she did.
I arrived to the track meet a bit late so I missed the long jump. I was listening to the results and hoping she would get 6th or 5th sometime just so she would stay interested. They were announcing 6th, 5th, 4th; and I kind of felt bad that she didn't make the cut. Then they announce "and first place with a jump of 16"25, Jessica Nichols from Perry". I about fell out of the bleachers. Track just seems to be her sport.
I was talking with her last night and she told me she hates track becuase she gets so nervous and feels sick. She said it is the worst feeling in the world. I told her everyone feels that way but at least she is doing well. I think she is feeling alot of pressure being one of the top times in the state and being a freshman. She tends to put pressure on herself, which is what makes her competitive in all of her sports but it could also be her demise. I try to just talk with her and help her put things in perspective. Track is just one sport out of the four she plays. People don't put pressure on her, they are excited for her.
I told her that she if she gets beat, it is just one race on one day and it wouldn't be the end of the world. I think she is nervous about losing in the 400, she hasn't been beaten yet this year and she feels pressure each time she runs.
Drew had a baseball scrimmage. He plays first base and pitches. He does a great job at first, had a fair performance at pitching. He only walked one batter but gave up two runs. This was the first time he has pitched all year so it should be his worst outing. The weather had been so bad, I haven't had a chance to work with him this year.
He batted well. Got on all three times at bat. Two hits and a walk. I think they should have a pretty good team this year and I am excited to watch the games.
Sorry this was a bit long today. So much going on.
I miss you all.

SUNNY MONDAY!
We are finally getting some good weather. It looks like it is going to be in the 70's today. Jess has a track meet today so it will be good for her to be able to run in good weather for a change.
Drew has a scrimmage tonight. He is pretty excited about it. I am going to go to Jessica's track meet since I will only be able to see her run a few times this year and since Drew's baseball event is a scrimmage. He was a little dissapointed when I told him but he understands. I figure when Jess is gone, I will see all of his HS events. No conflicts.
The kids and I went kite flying yesterday. It was a really nice day and we just had to take advantage of it. I have some pictures but can't find the USB cord so I will post them tomorrow. House of magic, remember.
About a week away from the Microsoft trip. It will be good to get away.

Slow It Down Sunday
Saturday was a busy one. Jessica had a track meet in Saydel. The weather was pretty crappy. It was cold with wind gusts that made it even colder. When the sun would come out it would get better but the sky was full of clouds so the sun moments were few and far between.
Jess did well. She ran a 61.40 second 400. It was a close race. They had to have a photo finish to determine the winner. Jess won by a tenth of a second. The girl from Saydel ran 61.50 seconds. She was tired but happy. This was her first gold medal of the year! I checked online this morning and her time puts her 5th in the state for 3A schools. The top time in the state is 61.25 seconds. She is 2 tenths from number 1 in the state. Not too bad for a freshman.
I think she can get below the 60 second mark but it will take some effort and good weather. Like most things in life, hard work and a little luck. She ran 3 400's yesterday. The open 400 then she ran the sprint medley relay. They got 4th in that. By the time she got the batan it was pretty much over. She closed the gap but that was about all she could do. Her split in that was 61.6 seconds so she did really well that time too. The third event was the 4x400 relay. It was only about twenty minutes between the last two event she ran and she was tired. She was tearin up and caring on a bit because she didn't think she could do it. I told her to suck it up and run. After a bit of a snotty exchange between the two of us, she ran the race and they go second. Once again by the time she got the batan it was over. She was in second when she got the batan and she kept them there. She ran a 65 seconds this time. Not as good but considering she was tired and had no chance of catching the first place runner, it wasn't too bad.
Drew had baseball practice last night. He is batting really well. He popped two balls to the fence and is really doing a nice job on first base. He told me the other day that he loves baseball and that it is his second favorite sport behind football. Kind of a suprise for me because I thought he would have said basketball but as long as he is having fun, that is what is important. He is going to play first base and pitch this year. I really hate it when he pitches because the pressure I feel in the stands is almost unbearable!
Drew has a scrimmage monday night and Jessica has a track meet monday as well. Not sure what I will do yet.

Finally Friday - the 13th (insert sinister laugh here)
I think we are at the end of this ridiculous cold spell. As I sit here and type this, the weather lady is saying the weather is going to get better this weekend and be pretty good throughout next week. On a side note, a teacher that left our school district last year is dating the weather lady and the word on the street is, they are engaged.
One of the vendors I work with, they do mostly cabling work for us, has a VP that is a huge Nebraska fan. Whenever I am to meet with one of their salesmen, he always comes up and talk with me about the huskers and the program. He goes to every spring game so he is heading up Friday night. He said he would send me some pics. He has asked me to go to different things. One year his company had a tent and tickets to the College World Series in Omaha. He had a ticket for me and everything but schools are considered governement agencies so I can't accept any gifts larger than $3.50. Kind of sucks but I can understand it. In any event I had to tell him no, I could not go.
Jessica had her track meet cancelled last night. She was bummed. I think she is gettting tired of just practicing and not getting to run a meet.
Drew has his big date tonight. I think he is really excited. Jessi and Dawn are going to the school play so I am going to get a little alone time at home tonight. I think I may make a steak and watch a movie.
There is a track meet on Saturday and I hope the weather is good for that.
Talk to you all soon.

The Weekend Cometh
Thursday has me thinking of the weekend ahead. It is such bad weather lately and the weather man (The lying bastard) says it is supposed to get much better on Sunday. I have a bunch of yard work I want to get started on but it is a little tough to get motivated when there is SNOW on the grass.
Jessica has a track meet tonight. She is running 3 4oo's. She runs the open 400, the sprint medley relay where she is the anchor running a 400 and the 4x400 relay. She is bit nervous but I am sure she will do well.
Drew is going to a movie with a girl on Friday. It is kind of a long story but one of his friends is going with a girl and her friend likes Drew. He was paid $3 to dance with her at a school dance a few weeks ago...lol Now this same friend is taking his girlfriend to the movies which mean Drew has to go with her friend. It really makes me smile when he tells me about this stuff. He said that his friend "Jackson" is planning on putting his arm around this girl at the movie. Another friend told Drew's date that Jackson was going to do that with her friend and would she care if Drew did that too. She said he could put is arm around her but when Drew found out he was ticked off. He said, "I'm not doing that. It would be uncomfortable." Another smile for dad.
Life is rolling on like normal. Work is busy and and most days like a dramatic movie. You have villans and heros, victims, sad situations and plenty of drama. The days I like best is when I can just do my work on the computer and not have to deal with all the "other" crap that seems to monopolize much of my day.
The Microsoft trip is fast approaching. I think it will do me good to get away for awhile.

Winter Track Season
Mother nature keeps sticking it too us. What is with SNOW today? This really stinks.
Drew is practicing indoors for baseball. As of today he has only had one practice outside. Jessica has had two track meets cancelled because of the bad weather. For the first time in a long time I am actually glad I don't have a window in my office. It would just be too depressing.
I am doing my civic duty today.....I am giving blood. I really do like donating blood. It makes me feel like I am helping someone and when you are in a room with 100 other people all donating blood it makes me feel that everyone has a good heart. Kind of like everyone coming together to help. Probably kind of silly but that is how it makes me feel.
Nancy and I are working hard getting thing ready for the early bird registration. It is alot of hard work but it will pay off later. I am pretty sure no one realizes what kind of work it takes to pull this kind of stuff off. Oh well, just the life of a tech.
Jessica was told by her track coach yesterday that if she runs 62 she will make it to state and if she can run a 61 or less she will carry the sprint medley team to state as well. I think she can break the 60 mark this year but it will depend on the weather and the ability to get good training days in before the end of the season. I guess we will see.

Mr. Fix-It
I am not sure what kind of cosmic alignment occurred this weekend but whatever it was cause most things in my house to stop working. If I have to take one more thing apart I think I am going to spit.
The weekend was long but seemed to go pretty fast. Here is a quick summary:
I worked most of the day on Saturday at work. Big project, little time...blah, blah, blah. I arrived home in the late afternoon and my dryer was really making a horrible noise. Since I decided to stay home this weekend I thought I should fix it. I tore the thing apart about three times, trying things and testing. Finally I found the problem. It was the fan in the botton. It had broken on the end just enough that it would spin and shake. It would hit the sides and make the awful sound. I went to Ace to see if they had a part. They didn't but I bought a few spacer washers to try to get it tight. It is better but not finished. I found the part online and it should be her this week. All in all it took about three hours of messing around to get to this point.
Next up was the dang sump pump. It would not pump water. I spend most of the late afternoon yesterday messing with that. Finally I tore the whole thing apart and found the issue. I happened to have a screw that made it work correctly. It is now fixed.
The kids colored eggs, yeah they are a bit old but Jessi talked Drew into it. I have some pictures posted of the fun.
I have to go to the school board meeting tonight. Jessi has a track meet tomorrow and Drew has practice tonight.
Later.
