Fridays just don't seem the same

Weather was really nice yesterday. We had a record high of mid 70's. Today it is going to be in the 60's. Our happiness will be short lived, however, we are going to have rain for the weekend and into next week.

I guess the crappy weather makes you appreciate the good weather all the more.

I kind of took yesterday off from life. I didn't do my usual morning routine and I just kind of had a care free day.

Today it is back to the routine. I feel better and my mood is pretty good.

Jess increased her vertical jump from 27 inches to 28.5 inches. That is a very high vertical jump. I was on the University of Nebraska website and it said the school record vertical for women was 29 inches. I need to go back and double check it but I am pretty sure that is what it said.

We also got a letter from the Airforce Academy wanting Jess to run track for them. We have had a bunch of letters from colleges and the high school PE teacher, who ran track in college and had a tryout for the Olympics in the long jump, said we will get flooded with calls after July 1.

The coaches aren't allowed to call before July 1, of her Junior year. It will be an interesting time. I hope she stays healthy and runs well this track season.

Drew has been working on his TSA project every night lately. I think he has a competition here in Perry on Monday. I teach but I might be able to stop down during a break and see him do his thing.

I teach class again tonight and tomorrow morning. I have a bit of prep work to do for it but I am pretty prepared. They take a test every weekend so part of the class I just sit and wait. It is good because I have so many papers to grade, I can do that while they test.

Jess has a volleyball tournament Saturday in Ankeny. It is hosted by the club she plays for so it should be good.

Ok, off to start.

I might as well have left a blank screen

It looks like the weather is going to be nice today. I hope we are on our way to Spring.

Not much on the agenda today. I teach class tonight and have some office work to do.

It is the middle of the week and I hope the rest of the week goes fast. As a matter of fact, I hope the rest of the month goes fast. Spring break is just a couple weeks away.

Once the weather gets nice, I am going to go shopping for a new grill. I didn't get to do any last summer but that won't happen this year. I also think I am getting another 1/4 beef pretty soon.

Last night I relaxed. I made Queasadillas for dinner and then watch tv and relaxed. The next four days are busy with teaching so I want to appreciate the time I have off.

Not much else to say so I better start my day.

As I sit in the jungle, I hear the constant beat of a drum in the distance

One more day of cold weather before we get a little warm-up. I need SPRING!!!!

Class went ok last night. I have computer issues so had to cut class a little short. Not a big deal but it would have been nice to get started on a new unit.

Jess had her basketball pot-luck last night. She was selected 2nd team All-Conference. It is a good thing because we really have a strong conference with a lot of really good players. It was great for her to make the second team. Her coach told her it should have been first and would take her over any of the other players on 1st team but I think she deserved 2nd team. It was good for her.

Drew is working on TSA and the next competition. I think there is one on Friday. He is going to do the remote control car competition.

We are getting further on our virtual reality lab. Today, the guys from Rockwell Collins are coming down to put demo software on our system so we can actually see things in 3-D or a virtual reality demo. It should be cool.

I have the night off, WHOO-HOO!! I have learned to cherish the evenings that I have free.

Jess had her first official track practice of the season yesterday. She is sore.

Not much else going on. I feel like I need a vacation but who doesn't?

Off to start.

1 week down...5 more to go

The vicious cycle of my month continues today. Weather is cold now but supposed to be warmer this week. I think we get to 50 sometime in the next few days.

A couple meetings this morning and then I teach class tonight.

Class went well this weekend. It was a flurry of activity and I kind of lost track of what day it was after awhile.

Friday night I started class with a class list of 11 people. I had another student add so he came in with a sheet for me to sign so that made the count 12. Out of the 12, 7 showed up. One of the students felt sick so she went home early so down to 6.

Saturday, the sick girl didn't show and one of the other students was a no-show as well. So I ended up with 5 students for all day Saturday. We covered a bunch of material so if the other students want to show up for this weekend, they will really be in bad shape.

It wasn't too bad doing the class but the students stayed for every minute of both sessions. A couple of students don't have good computers at home so they stayed to do their homework. Ugh!

Jess played in the volleyball tournament, they didn't do very well. Saturday night we went out to Olive Garden for her birthday.

Drew went to a TSA contest on Friday night. He did the "knowledge bowl" again and this time he did much better. He said he had a good time and will keep doing it.

Yesterday was my day off so I tried to take advantage of it. I got groceries, cut Molly's hair and gave her a bath. I ate a little lunch and took a nap. Last night I watched "The Amazing Race", "The Apprentice", and drank a little wine...ok not a little but not a lot either.

I am not sure what the week ahead will bring but I am sure something of note will happen, it always does.

Off to start.

Snow tonight...Blyme!

Well it is Friday but it isn't a happy Friday. Mom - I now feel your pain. Having to work on the weekend kind of takes the joy out of Friday. I have tonight from 5-9 and tomorrow from 9-2:30.

Drew went to the TSA thing last night. He participated in the "knowledge Bowl". His team ended up with a score of -15. I guess they needed to study a bit more than just on the bus ride down to the competition.

There is another TSA thing tonight. He hasn't decided if he is going to go. It is somewhere in southern Iowa by the Missouri border so he wouldn't be back until close to midnight.

Nancy and I are taking Jess out to lunch today. We have done this every year for her birthday since she was in 2nd grade. The high school has ITED testing today and they all get out of school at 11.

She has a volleyball tournament tomorrow. I saw the schedule and it looks like the pool play goes until 4. I am not sure if they have a tournament after that or not. I will go and watch after I am done teaching. I hope to get everyone out by 1:30 or so.

I had the night to myself last night. Dawn took Jess to volleyball practice in Ankeny and Drew was at the TSA contest. Molly and I watched a movie I had rented. I sat in my chair with my pajamas on, covered myself with my blanket, drank some wine and relaxed. I could use more time like that.

Drew got home a little before 10 and I went to bed before Jess got home.

I have part 2 of the training session today. It goes from 8-11:30ish. I am not thrilled to sit through it. This morning I am a student, tonight I am a teacher. It seems like kind of a metaphor of life doesn't it.

Ok, off to start.

On the road I travel, people are running the other direction

It is going to be kind of an icky day today. Ice/sleet type of moisture. The good news is, I have the evening free.

Class went well last night. I got out around 9:20, which was pretty good. I am not really looking forward to the Friday/Saturday thing but I am sure it will be fine once I get going.

I have a training session this morning from 8 to around 11:30 and then the rest of the day is open.

We interviewed the second Superintendent candidate yesterday. She was ok. I would say it is kind of a toss up between the two candidates but if I had to select one, it would be the guy from yesterday. I think he is a bit stronger.

I am not sure what the school board did last night. They had the final interview and I have no idea if they hired someone or if they are going to do it today. I know there is always a bit of discussion about the compensation package, etc. but I should be a done deal by the end of the week.

I didn't really see the kids last night so I have no idea how things were for them yesterday. Jess has track and then volleyball practice tonight and a volleyball tournament in Boone, Saturday.

Ok, off to start.

The goose turns 17 Saturday...I just can't believe it

Drew had his choir concert last night and it was nice. They sang about 6 songs and we were done. It was less than an hour so it was short and sweet.

I didn't get a picture of him because where I was sitting, I didn't get a good angle at him. I don't think he sang very loud but he did sing.

Jess got a letter from Iowa State University for track. They are interested and want her to schedule a visit. She says it is too close to home.

The first round of Superintendent interviews were yesterday. It went well. The guy seemed nice and would be fine. It is always hard to tell from a 50 minute interview. We have the other candidate today. From her resume and cover letter, she seems like a spit fire, go-getter. I personally think that would be good.

I guess we will see how she does today.

Class tonight. I still have some papers to grade and have a little prep for tonight but it shouldn't be too bad. I am stressing a little about the Friday/Saturday class that I start this week. It just seems like a long time to teach. I guess it is like diving into a cold pool, just jump in.

It was the first day of track practice for Jess. I guess it is still "voluntary" practice but she started yesterday. It was pretty easy. Usually, she comes home from the first day and says "Shoot me in the face!". Yesterday she said it wasn't too bad.

Drew said he cracked his plane yesterday so won't be competing in the TSA competition Thursday. He seemed indifferent about it.

Ok, off to start.
