The weather has been unpleasant so far this Spring and it looks like the long weekend is going to be wet. Today is supposed to be nice but rain is in the forecast for the rest of the weekend.
I was hoping to get some yard work done but I guess I will have to wait and see how the weather holds up. If the accuracy of the weather people is as usual, it may be sunny and nice all weekend. Your guess is as good as theirs most times.
There are no games scheduled for this weekend so it should be relatively uneventful. Drew is going to a birthday party on Saturday but other than that, we have no plans.
I picked up Shelby's ashes yesterday. It was sad but they put her in a nice wooden box that had a ceramic heart on top with Shelby written in script. There were also a couple of little paw prints in the ceramic top. It is nice. I am not sure when we will bury her but we have the spot picked out and have to have a time when we can all get together and the weather is nice.
I will try to get some pictures up on the site this weekend. I am not as good at that as I should be.
I think I may drink a little beer this weekend.

What to Say
It has been a week since my last posting and much has happend. I am kind of at a loss for words and it has been hard to start blogging again. The last week has brought deep sadness, joy, a time for reflection and a time to begin to heal.
One week ago today, our dog Shelby passed away. She was only seven and I took her in to get spade. It was routine surgery and we had no concerns what-so-ever. I recieved a call at 9:00 am that morning that her heart had stopped during surgery and she died. The sadness that washed over me at that moment was overwhelming. I did not know what to do or what to say. Shelby was not just a pet but a family member and I will miss her greatly.
Jesssica ran in the state track meet the following day. Thursday. I did not tell the kids about Shelby because I knew she would have a hard time running witht that in her head. She did well and got 9th in the state.
I told the kids Thurdsay night about Shelby and it was a very sad night and next day. Drew stayed home from school in the morning but went in the afternoon. He had a game that night and did well. The team lost 14-11 but he had two doubles.
Saturday of last week, Jess ran in the state track meet in the Sprint medley relay. The got 7th and she ran a 57.4 split for her 400 leg. The top three places broke the state record so 7th was very good.
There seems to have been so much that has occurred in the last week that it is really hard to put into text. It was awesome to see Jess run at state and do well. It was great to see Drew do so well in his games but we enjoyed all of these accomplishments with a heavy heart.
The coming weeks will be much better and I look forward to our summer events. The last day of school is June 6.

Chicken, Chicken and Crispito
It is Wednesday and the school lunch on Wednesday is always the same - chicken sandwich, spicy chicken sandwich or crispito. Jess looks forward to the chicken sandwich every week.
Drew had a baseball game last night. They lost 10 -5. It was mostly an error riddled inning that cost them the game. He played left field for an inning and then 1st base the rest of the game. He had three at bats - stuck out once (first time all year he struck out), out at first once and had a single.
The baseball team is really struggling this year but they are having a lot of fun. Drew has a few friends on the team and that makes practice and games, regardless of the outcome, fun for him. The season ends in mid June so he and I will have a chance to go golfing a bit this summer.
Today is the lull in the week. Thursday, Jess runs at the state track meet and then I have my first night of golf league. It should be fine, Jess runs at 1:20 and I don't golf until 5:00 so I should have plenty of time for both. Drew is excited that he is getting out of school to go watch her run.
Friday, Drew has a baseball game. Saturday more state track and Sunday, another baseball game.
Today is just a day to take a breath. Drew has team pictures tonight and Jess should have an easy practice. So I think I will just relax this chicken, chicken, crispito day.

Conference Champ!!!
The conference meet was an adventure. Jess was scheduled for 4 events. The long jump, the open 400, the sprint medley relay and the 4x400 relay. It was nice but windy conditions.
The result of the day:
4th or 5th in the longjump
Conference Champ in the open 400
Conference Champ in the Sprint Medley Relay
Conference Champ in the 4x400 Relay.
4 events, 3 gold medals. I think the nerves were getting the best of her for awhile, she kept saying she was tired and had a few tears but she did well. The last event was the 4x400 and one of the girls that really helped her this year was a girl named Brittney and she is a senior. It was her last event ever because she didn't qualify for state. She told Jess she really wanted a gold at conference. Jess said she didn't know if she had anything left but would try her best. They won gold and the fairy tale season continued.
Jess runs at state on Thursday. It should be perfect weather. She has a good shot of breaking her school record.
Drew has been working hard at baseball practice. He has a game tonight. I will get some pics to post of his game.

Manic Monday
It is going to be a busy week. Jess has her conference track meet today. It is about an hour away so I will leave work early. She is in the longjump so it is one of the first events. She is also in the last event, the 4x400, so it will be a long day.
Tomorrow Drew has a baseball game. It is away but doesn't start until 6:30. They are coming off a big win so this game is important. He is really enjoying baseball this year.
Thursday Jessica runs at the state track meet. She runs the 400 at 1:30 in the afternoon.
Friday Drew has another baseball game.
Saturday Jessica runs the Sprint Medley relay at State. I think that one is the morning sometime.
Friday night we are having the relay team and the coach over and I am making a pasta dinner for the team. Not sure what they want yet. It will either be lasagna or chicken alfredo. It will be a busy night because Drew has is baseball game.
Sunday Drew has a baseball game.
The weather is supposed to be good for all of the events. Jess may have some issues with the wind today. I think it is supposed to be gusty. The good news is that it blows for everyone.
I found out Saturday that Jessica broke the school record in the 400. The old record was 59.06 and she ran it in 59.00. 6 hundreth of a second but it is still a new record! I think she will beat that time at state. She is in the fast heat and currently ranked 6th in 3A. They give medals to the top 8. The Sprint Medley relay also broke the record. Jess is the anchor leg of that and the old record was 1:52.73 they ran it Friday in 1:52.17. Two events and two school records. I don't think the goose could have had a better weekend.
I found the camera and will post some pictures tomorrow.
Wish us luck!

ON TO STATE!!!!
She did it!!!!! Jessica ran the open 400 in 59 seconds flat. It was a very close race but she ended up second by a tenth of a second. The top two make it to state and she is in!!! Jess was very excited and relieved after all the stress of the day. The sprint medley team was in a tough battle with the fourth best time in the district. When Jess got the battan they were in 4th and she pulled them up to 3rd. They did finish 3rd but they take the top two from each district and then the top 8 times in the state. Jess ran a 58.5 second split for her 400 in the relay and the time they finished in was good. I looked on the website today and it looks like the relay team made it to state as well!!!!!
How awesome is that? Jess making it to state in two events. She will run Thursday at 1:30 for the open 400 and Saturday for the sprint medley.
Drew's baseball team won 10-9 last night. He hit a double that scored 2 runners. He also pitched a couple of innings and did well. They did hit a homerun off of him but that was the only big hit he gave up.
All in all it was a good day. Jess is at Adventureland today and Drew stayed overnight with a friend. I can't find the camera so when it turnes up I will post pictures from the track meet.

Fun Friday
It is finally Friday. Drew had a game last night. They lost by 10 runs. It was not a pretty game. They are going to have a long season.
As I arrive at the game last night. Drew comes running up to my car and says "You have to umpire tonight." I was less than thrilled by this but hardly suprised. I don't mind umpiring but it is more fun to be able to just watch the game in a lawn chair. I have the feeling I am going to get stuck doing this a bunch this year. I was already scheduled to home plate umpire more than any other dad and last night was just an extra. Oh well. I know what it is like to coach and have dads that won't help out.
Drew did well. He had an picture perfect bunt that advanced runners into scoring position. He also grounded out to first on his second, at bat. He pitched, which really sucks having to umpire when your son is pitching. He did well. I don't think he walked anyone.
Jess has her district track meet today. She is very, very nervous. I helped her find some relaxation scripts online last night so she was reading those and going through the steps. She said it really helped. It makes you focus on breathing and gets your mind to let everything else go. I told her to print it out and take with her to the meet. She is worried she wont make it to state. There are three girls that ran a sub 60 second 400 on Monday so she has her work cut out for her. She just needs to finish in the top two to qualify. Truth be told, I have butterflies in my stomach too.
I would have had pictures of Drew's game but I had to ump so I will get some at another game. Drew has a game tonight as well and I think he is going to pitch a lot so I am very dissapointed that I am going to miss it. The other two top pitchers maxed out last night and he should pitch 60 or more pitches tonight. I wish I could see him.
I will post the results of our big day tomorrow morning.
Miss you all.
