Noah on speed dial

It was a wet and rainy weekend. The thunderstorms last night turned into a tornado to our west about 20 miles. It was north of Grimes.

The baseball game and softball tournament were canceled. The weekend was kind of a bust. I think we will have clouds and maybe some rain into Wednesday and then it is supposed to get nice.

Yesterday I had the mother of all headaches. It was a killer. It hurt so bad it actually made me puke. I went to bed at 7 and stayed there the rest of the night. Misery!

I am feeling better today but have a bit of a headache hangover. I hope it doesn't come back, I really can not live like that.

Drew has his first high school baseball game today. He plays here in Perry at 11. I think it is double header. I may stop over and watch a bit of it. He also has a Junior league game tonight at 6 and Jess has a softball game here in Perry.

I get my eyes checked today. I haven't had them checked in a couple years. I have been using contacts from like 5 years ago. It will be good to be able to see again.

Jess and Drew both start the summer weight lifting and practice schedule. Jess had to be at weight lifting at 6:30 this morning. She just left and was a bit grouchy about it.

Drew has weight lifting a 8:00 this morning. They both have basketball practice every morning after weight lifting. Jess will have volleyball as well starting next week. Drew has football 7 on 7 every Sunday night.

Jess thinks Drew should have to weight lift at 6:30 with her. Like I said....Grouchy.

Off to start.

Not quite the end of the rainbow but still pretty nice

The weather is going to be really good today. High in the 70's and sunny. It should be a pretty good day.

It is also the last day of school before the summer break. To top that, it is only a half day.

Both kids have games tonight. Drew is in Madrid and Jess has a home game.

Drew had his official 8th grade graduation yesterday. Even though he has this half day left, he is officially a high school student.

Jess has another final today but is done at 11. She will be a senior....ugh!

Life moves pretty fast doesn't it.

The teachers work all day today and then half of a day tomorrow. I plan on taking Drew to get his learners permit and get a license plate for the scooter tomorrow.

The California trip is just a few weeks away and I can't wait. Our new superintendent called me yesterday. She is really nice. I think she will be a breath of fresh air in the district but it will be interesting to see how she handles the tough stuff.

Not much else. Off to start.

In each life some rain must fall

The weather is wet and buggy. Unpleasant!

Drew had a game last night and it took about 3 hours. They won! It is the same team that they beat two other times but a win is a win.

Drew played 3rd base and 1st base. He got hit by a pitch, hit two to the outfield and was walked twice.

I spent the night battling bugs. I think I need body netting.

Nothing on the agenda for tonight. Both kids have games tomorrow. Jess has a game on Thursday and Drew a game on Friday. Jess also has a tournament on Saturday.

Today is the last full day of school before summer break. I have decided to try to make a change in my life. I am going to try to let things go and not let things get to me. I am going to be like a twig on the mighty Mississippi, just going with the flow. I have gotten to the point lately that every little thing give me stress and I am done with it. I need to relax and just worry about stuff that matter.

Most of the stuff I get worked up about, in the big scope of life, really doesn't matter. I guess we will see how it goes. I need to come up with a mantra to go along with my new attitude. I will see what I can come up with.

Molly has been really itchy and has scratched the hair off her hind quarter. I think I am going to take her to the vet to see what they can do. She doesn't have fleas, she is just really itchy. Poor thing.

OK, off to start the rainy day.

Scooting around

The weekend was nice. The bugs are just terrible here right now. It is ridiculous. I ended up spraying my yard with an insecticide. There were so many bugs that it was almost impossible to sit outside. They would just swarm.

Not much went on this weekend. Drew had saved up all of his lawn mowing money and bought a Playstation 3. I bought him a few games but that is how he chose to spend his money.

I bought a scooter. It is kind of like a little motorcycle but it only goes 30 mph max. It takes about 3 blocks to get it up to 30. Drew should be able to drive it to his baseball practice. He and I drove it around this weekend. Last night it quit working and won't start so I will have to call the shop and have them take a look.

Drew has a baseball game tonight but it might rain so we will have to wait and see. Jess doesn't have anything until Wednesday.

It seems very humid today. It seems the summer weather is already here.

Ok, off to start.

Ying and Yang

The weather was good yesterday and is going to be good today too. It is a nice way to enter the weekend.

Drew had a game last night and he really played well. He was up to bat 4 times. The first time he boomed one out to left field for a double. His second time up to bat he boomed one into center field for a single. They walked him the last two times at bat.

He also played first base and did a nice job and pitched the last three innings. He had a good night and the team won for the second time of the year. Well, they beat the same team twice but it still counts.

Jess has a game tonight. Who knows what will happen with that. I am sure we will lose but who knows what the drama on the field will be. The coach told the girls last night that she didn't owe them anything and she was going to play the 8th graders. She is building for the future. Whatever!

I told Jess to just have fun and enjoy playing with her friends.

Not much on the agenda for the day. We have had a little issue with Vista and connecting to the Internet so I hope it doesn't blow up today. Every day is an adventure isn't it.

This weekend, Drew has a makeup game but other than that, it is open. I may clean the garage depending on the weather. We are supposed to get more rain.

Oh, I got the paper last night. It is a bunch of stories about Jess at state. The sports editor even wrote and editorial about her. I need to get everyone's address so I can mail papers to you all. I am going to buy a bunch of copies.

If you are reading this, and want a copy of the paper, email me at Rich.Nichols@perry.k12.ia.us and give me your home address. I will send them out this weekend.

Off to start.

Up is down....black is white....What the heck!

The weather is going to be good today. It has been rainy the last couple of days so it is going to be nice to have a sunny day for a change.

This is a short week. It is already Thursday and we are counting down the days until school is out for the summer.

Drew's game on Tuesday was rained out. I am not sure when they will make that game up but I would imagine in the next week or two.

Jess had a softball game last night. They played Winterset who is the defending state champs(we got 10 runned in the 5th inning). The coach didn't start Jess. She had her DH which is a bunch of crap but whatever. I think she is punishing the track girls because the other girl that went to state sat the bench until the 5th inning.

Jess actually ended up playing center field after the first few pitches. I am not sure what the coach's motivation is but she has the whole team all ticked off. She has two girls that are in 8th grade playing in the infield. One of 1st and the other on 3rd. They both suck and made a bunch of errors.

We will see how things develop as the season moves on but right now it kind of sucks. Jess did play well. I think she caught 7 balls for outs. The Winterset coach came up to her before the game and congratulated her on her state championship. He said he really enjoyed watching her run this year.

Drew has a game tonight and Jess has a game tomorrow. Both are here in Perry so at least we don't have to drive.

4 and a half days of school left. It can't get over fast enough for me.

Off to start.

Memorial day - Memorable weekend

Lightning struck twice at the state track meet this weekend. Jess won the 400 on Thursday and then won the 200 on Saturday. It was a very good weekend for her.

The local newspaper has an article and some pictures of Jess. Here is the link: www.theperrychief.com

This week is going to be a busy one as well. Drew has baseball games tonight and Thursday night. Jess has softball games tomorrow and Friday night.

The softball coaches have decided to move Jess to left field because she is fast and they need speed in the outfield. She is not a happy camper about that change. I am not a fan of the change either but whatever. I have little confidence in a coaching staff that won 3 games last year and had a team goal of not getting "10 runned" in every game.

I coached most of the girls on the team but the big difference between me coaching and these coaches, is I won! If I had a three win season, I would want to shoot myself in the face.

The three day weekend didn't seem like a three day weekend to me. It went quick and I did very little. I hope my energy level increases soon.

The school is building a new auditorium and I have a meeting with a group of people and the architect today to go over some initial ideas.

Tomorrow I do my staff evaluations. I really don't enjoy doing that very much but it will be good to have it done.

I have a video of Jess state races and I will try to get them posted in the next day or so. I also have some pics.

Off to start the week.
